OT: sex, girls and politics
The music style and dress is Destiny's Child, Beyoncé Knowles-ish, basically R&B. Not sure who's behind "Barely Political dot com" but a presidential campaign turning out so many humorous videos like this is unprecedented. There are a number of them circulating. It's probably just a sign of the times and GenY beginning to rule. As for non-political careers boosted by this, Amber Lee Ettinger's is certainly about to take off like a rocket ship. That guy Rebisz, too. <grin>

I've been seeing this all day on cable at the office, including an interview w/ #1 Obama girl, who has also had me keenly looking since the earlier video. Now, to find that our very own mack daddy video dude, Rebisz, shot this new video is just amazing. Great work Patryk! Very nicely shot. Working with these beauties had to be incredible.

Sure there's merit to this music and it's not nearly as polarizing as some people and a lot of the media would have us think. I like it when people in positions of power at corporate events decide to do a skit, or spoof some form of entertainment, how often they choose Rap music to do it. I have seen that spirit and energy you describe really take them over. Quite interesting to watch. One manager said to me after one of those skits, "I was really loose up there. That felt great!" I feel like I have harped on it, but I really have enjoyed the videos you have posted here Patryk and I'll be checking your website to see some more. I'm hoping you get to work with some big name Hip Hop artists in the future. With your connections in NY, Miami and LA, that could happen sooner, than later. All the best, with everything. Take care.

OT: last one music video, i promise
Yeah, right, last one, haha. These are enjoyable but to VERY few here as you have seen, and I have been surprised by, but, thanks for posting. This one must have been fun to shoot. Lots of people, all having fun in an urban environment, night and day. Is the water in the night shots your prop or was there some rain? Cool song and lyrics, fairly infectious, after a few listens, but for the energy the very talented female dancers bought to this, I would like to see them backing a slightly more energetic song. That's a critique of the artist, producer or director, though. Listening to Water, I can tell he is all NY, but is he PR, Mexican? Your camera work is very good, as usual. Just enough playing with the focus, zoom and pans, and then, in post, filters, transitions and rapid cuts to keep it interesting. Nice key framing all through this. Wish I could do it that well. I saw one or two shots done from an elevated spot or just held very high (3:25 for example). Actually would like to have seen more of those. They look good. Hip Hop is also a fashion show, as this video shows. It's interesting how the music and fashion are working hand in hand. Lot's of colors, lot's of fun. I may have to try to track down a couple of cool NYY caps I saw in this to put on my dome. (haha)

Leave a space between yours and the perfectly lined row of parked cars on your office lot and when someone says why did you leave that space, say you decided to let it live. When your incandescent bulb goes, think that it lived its whole lighted-life for that dramatic flash. Soon nothing will be but so ordinary, and you might even put some lyrics to your furious fretwork that'll leave them with even bigger smiles. Enjoy thinking laterally and remember that thought is non-linear, too.

Grazie, the Black Eyed Peas are great. will.i.am and company have fans worldwide. It's hard to argue with music that stirs people like that. Tim, Literal Thinking versus Lateral Thinking is a scale that most people tip towards the Literal side on. You can practice Lateral Thinking though. You can start by renaming everyday things in your mind. Don't call it what it is, call it what it does. That's a good start. (edit) or call things what they used to be. Lateral Thinking: "My car was almost on "E" so I had to stop and got some "dead dinosaur." Do that kind of thinking enough and the abstractness of poetry will become clearer and more enjoyable. Literal thinking is tough to beat down, though. My brother is a Literal thinker and I cannot tolerate watching a movie with him. Zero imagination, and starts with, "that doesn't make sense," before the story has even started to unfold.

Dave, you have me laughing, man. It's clear you're not trying to dog Patryk. I've read enough of your posts over the years here to be sure of that. It's also clear that the protagonist, or antagonist, if you will, did a pretty good job in this video if he got under your skin. That's his job; to be a big, mean dude and to say controversial things. No director would tell him to tone it down, look friendlier, or, do a little Cabbage Patch or Running Man. If he moves a little robotic in this vid, I suspect that because that's all they could do with a guy his size cut like him. Jaydeee, "crap," "puff-work," are harsh opinions, but it's certainly your right to express them. Meanwhile, PATRYK is growing in the business and gaining experience, while Rap and Hip Hop are crossing all lines of race, ethnicity, zip code, country of origin, etc., selling like crazy, and, honestly, connecting people in society who would never have otherwise gotten connected. It's a changing world, and while PATRYK might not be on the vanguard at this point, I really think he is headed there.

Well said, fldave. No worries about Patryk starting to "think" too much. This is the same guy who took ~2,000 still pics, dropped them on a timeline and made a beautiful 4+ minute film that got international acclaim and time on the national news. I know it's been covered here before, but it's still worth mentioning again, because this is how Patryk rolls... watching people all over the globe gobble up stuff that lacks perfect form and just isn't supposed to work, sell, be popular, be accepted, etc. You're in a good space Patryk. Keep it up. I'm watching for the next video.

Patryk, you're right, these dudes make the Board Bangers look pretty tame! Still this is a smokin' groove and very well done video. Did you make all the light or did you use some natural light, as well? I saw some nicely placed halos and lots of sun rays. That light contrasted perfectly with the depressing little apartment and also gave the place a hot, stuffy atmosphere. Nice shooting in the way you made the light reflect off of people and objects. The smoke was another interesting tool in this vid. It was easy to think, gunfire, but it also made me think how nothing is ever clear in that life. It's always hazy and day-to-day. I'm not oblivious to the crime message in this piece. That's one of the things I like about Rap. Along with irresistable rhythym, it tells life like it is. With many people, Rap/Hip Hop are a turnoff because crime always appears to be the message. What I see in this video is a message about making it in a tough world. A world that has lots of crime going on, on the block and in the executive office, thus the key that keeps appearing. Some have the key, some have the brick. Our world. Thanks again for sharing your work, man.You and your JVC HD110 have a great eye.

OT: Just typical day at the office...
AWESOME!!! This video has an even bigger "hook" than the other one. What fun, watching Hip Hop cool take over this stiff company and make the suits lighten up a bit. Very appropriate message, since a lot of corporate marketing is done using Hip Hop and Caribbean music these days. Your shooting and editing is again amazing, and, once again, whoever directed this did some great work. Your comment about it being a tough shoot is probably and understatement. I'm very impressed with how real you keep it with your editing. I like the very subtle use of effects, such as the little blur at the end of the scene when the young lady confronts the boss with the skateboard and the vibrating chair scene. If you had gone crazy with those effects in this piece, it would have messed up the whole thing, in my opinion. I love the Afro-Caribbean vocalization and beats throuhout this. I can't watch this without bobbing my head :)) and I just watched it for the fourth time!! Thanks for sharing. Keep up the GREAT work.

OT: music video i shot recently (CC'ed in Vegas)
I don't post much here anymore, but, Patryk, every time I see your name here I think about the amazing video you did a while back made up of nothing but still shots, and that makes me click to see what you got. This music video is stupendous. Great shooting and very sweet editing. Not a dull moment to be found in it. Not sure who directed it but they know their stuff, too. Wow... I don't see too many kind words for Hip Hop here but I love this group and their sound. The young lady out front, with her drumming hand gestures, facial expressions and command of rap, is simply mesmerizing, and the sound is very fresh. I bet they love how you put all the pieces together. I picked up the same underlying story that Grazie did. I listen to music with open ears and an open mind, and I consider it cool when you have to really listen to get the message. This is a talented and creative group of youngsters you shot in this, Patryk. Great that you get to work with them. It's purely speculative on my part, but skateboards may be getting popularized in Hip Hop by Pharrell Williams. He is the production mind behind a lot of hip hop artist's music, and also hip hop styled music heard in recent years from Britney Spears, Gwen Stefani, etc., and he is a skateboarder. I read somewhere that he has a skateboarding ramp, or half-pipe, inside his house. How cool is that? I see you posted another vid of them. I'm off to watch that now.

I continue to be amazed at what you get done with your little Canon Elura. Great camera technique. How do you get the zooms and quick panning shots done? Are you moving the camera or using a combination of camera movement and zoom control on the camera or do you touch the camera zoom rocker at all in your shooting sessions? Anyhow, the true progressive shooting mode on the Elura seems to fit perfectly with the very effective and edgy motion that all of your pieces have. If you ever go HD, Canon does have an Elura lookalike in their new HV10, but I don't think it shoots progressive so it will likely not fit into your arsenal.

Awesome commercial. Thanks for sharing it. Great camera work and use of motion and blurring. I have seen all of yours that you have posted here and this one is now my new favorite. I also like the blue tones to fit the ad hook. Speaking of blue, Shae, from the first sweet smile to the sultry stroll is blue hot, if I might venture that far. Wow, what a camera-friendly female. Sophisticated and pretty, but also a bonafide babe. I guess I should limit comments to the editing, but in this case.......

You might very well be right on target. I have experienced flash frames in Vegas Video 3 and Vegas 4 and I also have a Turtle Beach Santa Cruz installed, driver version 5.12.1.4193, which I think I updated not too long ago. I don't have time to run some Santa Cruz Control Panel (enabled/disabled) tests right now but I'm going to turn off that panel anyway. John, when you say you closed the control panel, do you mean you unloaded it so it will not even open when you dbl-click the systray speaker icon, or do you mean you closed it by clicking "x" on it while it is running?

Short video
Nice sports piece. I like the defensive power showcase in the second part better. Nice coordination with music and use of speed changes and other special effects. Suggestion: you might consider reducing size from 720x480. I'm grabbing 5mbps and it was still a long download to get to watch the video.

Really long and vague amateur question
Your first post, way back when, said you had about 25 minutes of material for the project. That leaves you lots of room to tweak the bitrate up on your mpeg encode. If the footage at the game involves a lot of camera movement, etc., then you need more bitrate to make it look good.

"2Road....your comments about the spycam and the "heat" factor I are really bang on." It was easy to feel that the entire clip, the music, the energy and movement, etc., is a buildup to a fire, and in the end, there it is.....fire....the video that could not be shown. Very creative stuff.

I thought the noise added something to the piece. I know Stonefield had full permissions, but the noise gives a kind of spycam feel to the piece; like getting a look into some exclusive party, way after hours. I wish I could do so much with my noisy video.

Spectacular. Nicely shot, beautifully edited. Music is awesome too. Your clip makes it hard not to feel the heat at that party. I don't even know what to call all the things you used in post but I know you used them well. I love the motion blur and distorted, then clear, Artois logo at the end. I assume you shot this with your trusty Canon Elura. Amazing. Thanks for sharing your great work. (your file is large, but streams just fine on cable internet)

Advice on LCD Purchase please
LG has a track record of making very good panels and they do make a lot of them. That panel sounds very good, spec-wise. I wonder how the 8ms pixel response was calculated. If it is accurate, that is VERY good for a panel of that size. When I looked at the link, it didn't make me think about video editing. Instead it reminded me that college football season is upon us again. I imagine it would make a decent editing LCD also, as long as there's no football game on, haha. Looks like BB has a deep discount going on that one. Nice buy. JackW is right, though. Be sure you're sure. That one falls in the LCD TV rather than computer LCD category. For obvious reasons, BB and most retailers are very leery on returns of those kinds of items and will likely charge to restock. Perhaps ask them if you can bring your own signal and hook it up to the panel to see what it looks like with your stuff. Bring your camera and try the DVI-in, S-video, etc. Another thing to consider is, with Labor Day coming, BB might be dropping some 10% coupons on items like that.

Kinda-OT: Spellchecker!
Perhaps Sony could implement a Google-styled language interface. Switching to "Elmer Fudd" language would probably chill out most disputes before they even get heated up. Seriously, the Google language interface is kind of fun to play with.
