Vegas 12 & .MOV files from iPhone5
Vegas 12 does not work with iPhone 4S video either. Probably a codec issue. Any converters recommended until Sony resolves this issue?

Vegas 8 Previews fine, Renders Black HELP!!!!!!!!!
I also had problems with Vegas 8 rendering to black. Everything worked fine in edit, I could render to mpeg2, I could not render to tape. Always black. My problem was our computers are bootcamped Macs. Everything but PTT seems to work fine. We ported the project to a PC and it printed to tape normally. I thought it might be a driver issue. Now I see there are others with the same problem.

I don't know if it is a Firewire problem. The Mac/V8 combo capture from the deck perfectly. Between the various computers we have captured thousands of hours of video either directly or daisy chaining thru an external drive whithout any problems whatsoever. The only repeatable problem we have is we are unable to print to tape using any of our boot camped Macs. Is there anyone else on this board using a Mac?

Hi Everyone- Problem solved. Vegas 8 will not print to tape on a Mac that is boot camped to a PC. I am guessing there is an overlay issue. We have 4 Macs that run FCP on the Mac side and Vegas 8 on the PC side. Until the PTT issue it all worked perfectly. None of the Macs will PTT. We also have straight PC laptops (where I am now printing to tape using V8). We are a public access TV station and have created thousands of mpeg-2 files which we do every day on our boot camped Macs. BEFORE everyone jumps all over me for using Macs, the reason why we have them boot camped is because of scheduling issues. Now we don't need to worry who is a PC or a Mac user, all computers are exactly the same. Other than this PTT issue we have had no problems. Maybe the Vegas techs want to take a crack at this. Hopefully, it is as simple as some driver that I do not have installed. iMac with duo intel, 4 gigs ram, external drives. Thanks for all the help.

Quicktime Rendering
Thank you for your answer. This is a volume project, there are many short videos. Quality is important, so is time. Is there a plug in codec that will work seamlessly with Vegas (I.E. only one render to QT?)

Quicktime Rendering
Thanks for your response: What codec are you using? QuickTime 7 that came with Vegas 8 (Sorenson 3) What resolution are you rendering? 960 x 540 What bitrate are you using? 3mbps (all settings were set to best or 100%) What is the final destination of the video? Flash for a web site. Client is doing the Flash work I deliver the QuickTime per client instruction. Thank you.

Quicktime Rendering
I do need a higher quality render than I am currently getting. Blacks/contrast is not as good as it could be. Other than what is available in Vegas settings for QuickTime, I am not sure what to do. V8 came with QT 7. Is there something else I need to buy to get a higher quality QuickTime output? Thank you.

OT: High School Football: No Filming
There are some issues that might come in to play... You are taping minors, do you have parental permission? There may be a league the HS has joined that regulates or wants money for taping. There may be child custody problems where one parent does not want the child identified at a certain schoolor location for safety or legal reasons. And so on...

V8 Pro Titler...Yawn
I will try and answer all questions left on the forum. For the can't please everyone and take my business elsewhere comments, I already have. I am still on Vegas 4. Believe it or not I am a Vegas fan and a critic. They probably should make me a beta tester, better to know in advance my complaints... The most significant improvements after V4 IMHO are (finally) the fix to ripple edit and the "Z" axis. Curiously, if I am not mistaken the "Z" axis is missing from ProTitler. At any rate I was looking for an intuitive, easy to use titler with more than 9 animated presets. I looked at Zaxworks as suggested and liked it. Zaxworks of course is much more than should be expected from a Vegas titler. More in that direction would be nice for those of us who don't want to spend the time hand creating animations. Maybe presets could be made that can be added to ProTitler. Hi Rex, been some time glad to see you are still around. I am also glad the old titler is still there. We teach video production here and all our computers are going to be replaced this winter. Yes, we will buy Vegas 8 for all of our new computers despite my criticism.

Deserting the Forum
I'm still on V4 waiting for worthy improvements. The title thing is very sad. Are there no thrird party takers? It took 3 or 4 versions to fix the ripple embarrasment, so there is still plenty of time time for a third party titler for Vegas. I know there are some improvements after V4, but, in my situation, I would have to justify the cost 10 new copies and the cost of re-training many V4 users and so far that justification has not been met. Our Vegas users are public access people and typically do not use Vegas on a daily or even a weekly basis. Lets face it all this fancy stuff is more or less directed at opening and closing credits. Vegas, once upon a time a leader, has now fallen off the map. Waiting another year or two is really not an option. Either Sony fixes the titles (unlikely) or a third party fixes it with a plugin or people will morph to other software. It may already be too late.

Codec
I think the codec must be installed in to windows since Media Player will playback the files. Vegas does not see the video but the audio is there. I wish to edit then encode the files to mpeg-2

V6 Bug Report. Back to Back Fades
It is not just a V6 bug, it is a V3, V4, V5 and V6 issue. Sometimes it behaves like that, sometimes it does not. When you hear complaints about long term bugs, this is one of them.

HDV - Ratios
kkolbo- That is exactly what I meant but was unable to articulate. I will try your solution. Another favor, could you try to render a 2 sec cross disolve in HDV to a new track. I can't make it work for some reason. I just want to know if it is me or not. Thanks for your help.

Hi Spot- Thanks for your response. The aspect ratio is on. I think preview is letting the different footages "fill" the frame. If it were truly maintaining both aspect equally the DV footage should be a little less than 1/4 of the HDV screen. Instead, DV fills up until the vertical limit. I believe this is a function of preview and if I were able to view full screen 1920x1080 I would see the aspects as they should be. Unfortunately, there is no resizing in full mode and my screen is only 1280x1024. Suggestions?

Render to new in HDV
Sorry, my message was unclear. I am trying to render to a new track, therefore I can see an effect/transition as it will be, for instance. The problem is while slow motion produces good results, cross disolve does not. Cross dissolve is jittery and and after the render is worse than the preview. The settings are the same, one works, the other does not. I literally had a 1/2 hour to spend on it today, so it is really just a curiosity right now, I will go back to exploring the issue tomorrow. Just curious if any ideas or maybe known problems pop in to anyones head.

Wow- I really like it when you all get worked up about stuff... The government is conspiring to squash your rights, the government is NOT conspiring to squash your rights. Religion is conspring against free speech - or not. And so forth. It is not possible for someone to legally re-edit your video without your permission. That would be a violation of many standing copyright laws. I suppose the government might possibly say you must have a G version as well, but that would be challenged and ultimately would not fly for a variety of reasons. The most important is that the government can not put words in your mouth, nor take them out...
