MP3 conversion - I only can encode in stereo?
No such luck, John. It actually sounded worse, which I guess is irrelevant because the other one was unusable as well. Is it affecting my sound quality taking a mono file and converting it into a stereo mp3? Thanks for offering, though. I would have thought that more people would have ran into this problem.

"The tradeoff, however, is that a mono 128Kbps file will sound "twice" as good as a 128Kbps stereo file." Is this true? Is there any difference in the sound? I know where the mono box is. If I check, it shortens the file, distorts and makes me sound like a chipmunk. Has anyone else experienced this? Thanks, Thomas

Critique my work! - photo essay
Ana. Very inspiring. at :56 to 1:02 (in that area) you have a really great sequence that I was curious about. The middle of the picture goes up and then another picture is joined out of three parts. Then the two (dancing) is highlighted (while the rest of the photo is blurred) and starts moving towards the point of view. Is there anyway you can explain how you did that sequence? You would be helping a greater good. I have a very important montage that I would love to incorporate even the slightest of that idea. Did you do alot of your work in Photoshop first and then import? Thomas

I went to Ultimate S and to Neon as well. As a novice, I would like to see examples of what the plugins do. It's harder for me to imagine something that I have not done before. Are there any examples that I can be pointed to see these in action.

How do you delete frames to create a jumpcut like effect?
I don't want to degrade the picture (I'll pocket that idea, though. Sounds cool). Cutting frames with crossfading - I think I can see how that would come out. Will try.

Choosing between Vegas and Cubase for audio
I'm staying with Vegas for audio. I think Cubase still has a problem with clicks on crossfades. Crossfading with Vegas is a dream - for audio and video. It would seem to me that the natural progression of the music studio would be DVD production. Vegas could very well back into an advantageous situation if they continued to progress on both sides equally.

Can you do the same thing with Flash that you can with Swish? I guess I'm a little confused as to what Swish does. Is it just an easier way to do Flash?

Correct - format is the wrong choice. I was more commenting on the lack of posting in general in the audio forum - a sharp decline from earlier days. Editing - I agree. I can't do without it. I don't really know what I'm looking for. I guess I was hoping for a gem that I probably wouldn't come upon myself.

Wow. This forum use to be hopping. Nevermind that no one has responded to my post. But not a post since? Damn. Can I deduce this as Vegas (on the audio side) not doing well? Is it back in MI again? I know it was pulled a few years ago. Oh well, love the crossfading, but this is depressing (in a melodramatic way). I was hoping that Sony would show some might with Vegas on the audio side.

My menu text is not showing up!
DVDA 2.0 Build 94 The only text I have on the menu are links. I think that answers your question. This is on a burned disc. It's there in the program. On the DVD, I can see the highlighted color that shows that something is supposed to be there, and I can move the color between the links...and the links work. I just can't see the text. Yes, this is my first project. I don't think I did anything differently than with the other two screens that have links on them. Sorry for the lack of jargon. Very new.

Audio low after rendering
Why is the default not set at -31? I took your advice - worked perfectly. So nice to have something corrected without having to jump through hoops. Thanks.

No audio during playback
I find that every time I load DVDA, I have to go into the control panel to my audio settings and "remind" DVDA that there is a sound card on board. Just had to do again two minutes ago. Even though it shows my card is there, I just reclick OK and suddenly I have sound.

Audio low after rendering
It would be nice to have checklists that I can look at before I complete steps in the process that is Vegas/DVD. Like "Did you do this?"; "Did you do that?". This would be a time saver.

I captured a still image - now it flickers on DVD.
I took it in to Photoshop to de-interlace. From my video monitor, I replaced the new image with the old. Thus far, I can see a noticeable difference. I haven't burnedt he DVD yet as I am working on other issues.

Promotional Video done in Vegas5
As a video novice, I thought the timing of your video was nice. The opening was effective. Coming from the audio side of life, the music and the VO was irritating. The VO had a pleasant sounding voice, but instead of listening to what she was saying, I kept thinking how important it is to hire real voice talent. The music, I think, could go a couple db down without any noticable difference to your client and maybe I could understand her at the end of her sentences (where she was lacking in breath support). Maybe you could even raise her a couple db on those instances. You mentioned you were on a tight budget but I would stress the importance of VO talent to clients. I'm going to go back and watch it without sound for ideas I might can pick up on the video side.

"Choose the one that says de-interlace. Your problem is that you are frezzing two fields that are slighlty different. When you de-interlace, Photoshop will remove one of the fiields and replace it with a copy of the remaining one. This will cure your problem..." This is similar to what I was told by the Avid guy. With this method, I found the de-interlace. It then brings me to a prompt: Eliminate - then it gives me a choice of "odd fields" or "even fields". Create new Fileds by: - then it gives me a choice of "Duplication" or "Interpolation". I would imagine I would choose interpolation here. I'm not sure about the "fields" though. Thanks, Thomas

Have you tried deinterlacing those three photos in your photo editor? This deinterlacing is new for me. I have unchecked in Vegas, did a small render of that section - tried to play it on the external monitor with no change. To clairify, I unchecked reduce interlace flicker. That's not the same thing as deinterlacing, is it? Thanks for your time.
