Yes you are correct about added features, which you can do in older versions of software, it just takes longer. I think Adobe have reached a point where all they can do is take functions from one application and put it in another. Illustrator to Photoshop and InDesign; Photoshop to In design. I think this was a consideration of Adobe going for subscription model. The biggest feature with a lot of software is GPU use. Plus Adobe saw the massive price fall of other software in the last couple of years, so rather compete in the discount market have avoided the problem of charging high buy alone prices if and when they go back to out right purchase.. If they put their price up they will simply drive a sizable amount of people to reversed versions.

[What product can open and edit Illustrator files?] JohnnyRoy Coreldraw opens Illustrator CC files. If I could be bothered there are sure to be a number of translating program if not direct import into 2d and 3d programs used in the industry. One word - Google.

[Stop paying and you can't open any of your files ever again.] deusx Let me make it clear Adobe formats can be opened in a number of other products. The statement of stop paying your subscription and you lose your files forever is just not true. Just one of many products Corel Photo Paint for instance will open the current CC PSD format with layers and text. It just does it faster.

Vegas Pro 13 is Here.
Well on initial reading it seems to me to be not worth upgrading. I am already subscribing to Adobe so I have a number of options and access to some great plugins. The audio can all be handled in Sonar (Tascam) with very sophisticated inbuilt or very reasonably priced plugins re loudness meters. Project Archiving usually has one big trap and that is if you upgrade a plugin the parent file will spit the dummy. No NewBlue Titles (unless i missed it). The usual included 3rd party software that generally is lucky to stick around for 2 releases. Hopefully someone more knowledgeable than me can see why this is a major release and not just an update. While I have supported Sony Creative Software over the years I have found recently that collaborating on a project with a MAC Adobe lets us work easily without any major OS hiccups. Sorry Sony Creative Software but you will have to actually innovate by producing permanent FX features such as GenArt and BorisFX standard into the product as at the moment it feels more like a lucky dip as to what comes with the product rather than what is built into Vegas and the user knows it will be in the next version with possible additional sophistication.

Cloud? I smell an Adobe subscription model poking its antenna through the cloud. I see Autodesk now have subscription choice. You rent Vegas XIII Pro or the complete suite of products. :)

Ideas, Effects, Plugins, Etc. For Music Videos?
I am of a mind with atom12 suggestion of shooting modern day interpretation or at least a well thought out set of metaphors. I take your point that you are involved in a "historical" scene but nonetheless I think you could bend the genre and take a risk. I would point to Shakespeare and in particular Romeo & Juliet, leaving stage performance out just the variety of film interpretations shows ways you can play around with both historical works and well know plot. I will hasten to add there have been some productions that would have been better left on the cutting room floor. So a couple of shot suggestions shoot fleeting glimpses from a far, as an example, a wide shot of a forest then x seconds in you see at a distance a character dart from behind a tree only to disappear behind another and stay on the shot for x seconds before cutting away to shadow(s) on a wall/ground of moving characters. I think you will get it - never actually see a person except fleetingly in the distance and for variety close ups of shadows (drawing a long bow?). What FX could you add - Levels and Colour - perhaps darken the forest, play around with saturation and light, or add an amber cast to the whole piece? Go for mystery and atmosphere. Given the song isn't a jovial track. I would also add a Nikon D800 with every F-mount lens made available is ideal for shooting "clips" particularly when you can control focus to a finer degree than most video cams.

Adobe will be Cloud only!
I am not endorsing the following statement, I simply want to point out there will be non cloud versions of Adobe apps. Anything that ultimately uses binary instruction code can be cracked. If a fully cracked version doesn't get released then a licence reset utility will appear.

New Nvidia Drivers: Version 314.22 - WHQL
I have 2 Nvidia GTX 560 running in SLI mode each in PCIe x 16 (Gen 2) Buses and the 314.22 driver seem to be working just fine.

Sony's "Last Chance to Save 30%" offer: BEWA
While we are on the subject of discounts: What I find annoying is the sudden appearance of a Sony advertising box when you start Vegas. Sony this is not shareware paid for by advertising within the program. No doubt someone will tell me how to stop it; but that is not the point I should not have to stop it. It may be buried in the terms and conditions but I would prefer that the default setting is no "news" an internet euphemism for "advertisement".

Pro 12 Suite upgrade price
The on sale price of HF2U includes a bunch of extras at the moment. SCS have got their fingers burned or are trying to burn ours. They should have priced the upgrade to the suite in the mid two hundred dollars as an intro to the “suite concept”. It seems to me that SCS could bring some good bargaining chips to the table in terms of brand power and exposure for hitfilm but their negotiating team must have had an off day. In a suite you expect interoperable functions similar to Adobe GFX apps. You can’t drag a sound track from V12 to Sound Forge this sort of function would warrant the use of the word suite. As it is – it is a bundle. The other concern which has been mentioned before is will hitfilm 3 be in V13 or is this a once off?

Hitfilm 2 ultimate on sale at their site $399.00
@TheHappyFriar Ah I think you need to add in the $139 already paid for V12 upgrade, which means you get $800 worth for $689. I think if you want Hitfilm 2 Ultimate and have V12 then HitfilmU2 sale price $399 looks more attractive than $550. After all DVD 6.0 is free and looks very similar to 5.2 in features and V6 still contains a number of issues and is only x86. Plus if you have sound forge the only reason to "upgrade" and get something new is hitfilm 2 ultimate. So paying $399 for hitfilm direct from their site or $550 form SCS seems to me to be an easy choice. I wonder if SCS got sucked in by FXhome?

VASST Title Strip and Cinema Looks
I have down loaded the free FASST items but have yet to install them. However, I would still like to thank VASST for providing the items for free, (even if things are a bit finicky) and also the replies in the forum from John Rofrano. SCS could take note of JR's replies and also the running of Cakewalk Sonar forum where various employees reply in threads and often explain issues or developments in detail. The replies not only relieve the frustration of users; but also let the customers know that they are listening. Both pieces of software are complex, allow 3rd party plugins and encounter different hardware and environment variables. In a perfect world everything would work perfectly; but we all know it’s not a perfect world.

Death by China, Documentaries, Made in China

I import goods for my business and I can tell you one country I import from is the USA because initially I wanted products of quality and an assurance that the chemicals that are on the label are in the product. What I can tell you is that a number of companies have all or some of their product made in China and label it “Made in USA” or by implication just put their company name on the label along with their US address. For obvious reasons I am not going to name the companies. Some of this knowledge has come from research and picking up on little things like removing the “Made in China” sticky label and occasionally missing on or two. The other source is direct contact from businesses in China who clearly search out websites that sell a US brand product and actually say in emails that they do manufacture the brands. So I ordered some product from China and yes it was exactly the same as that being sold by the US company; but at a fraction of the cost.

SOy Vegas 12 Pro and Hitfilm Ultimate 2 issues
Well I am of a similar mindset to those who have speculated on the cost of upgrading to the suite. If you have purchased SF and V12 will that give you a cheaper upgrade than just owning V12? It seems more appropriate if SCS offered Hit Film to V12 users without SF or PA. PA is of no value to me and I already have SF and several other “pro” audio products.

SOy Vegas 12 Pro and Hitfilm Ultimate 2 issues
The problem with bundles from SCS is that in the past with a number of different products, the extras being plugins etc are only around for a major version. I wonder if version 13 or XIII or will they start over again with Vegas Video Suite 1 is will NewBlueFX pro titler still be included? How long are they going to support and include HitFilm? It would not surprise me to see within a year a new version of HitFilm for Vegas on the the HitFilm site.

Windows 8 Compatability
Why would you want to upgrade to W8 unless you are a big fan of touch screens. I am lead to believe you can set it to work sort of like W7; but the installer should give you a choice of touch or mouse/pen and install the appropriate interface as the default. What do you w8 users think of it – particularly when using a program like Vegas Pro?

As expected, Vegas 12 is not stable...
Well I have to admit that V12 has given me more trouble than any other version. Blue FX Pro Titler was freezing it; so I took the risk and used the check for update and installed it. Whether the update was meant for Vegas I don't know but you would think so since the update was done via the Pro Titler menu. V12 seems to be more stable with title work now. But all sorts of other things like zooming right into frame level can freeze it. I have had the red screen and a host of other non logical operations cause a freeze. I expect the odd freeze with all media type software - it just seems to be the norm; but V12 is a real front runner in the freeze department. I haven't listed any specifics because it doesn't appear to be any specific event that causes the problem. I am going to load the project in 11 and see how it works in it. I started the project in 11 so no problems with a retrograde file version. Ah I just made some setting changes and as of yet no freeze with the bit that was constantly freezing. I'll see how it stands up to some more work - may have to eat some humble pie :(

Vegas Pro 12 released!
BCC OFX 8.1 has the choice of installing in Vegas 12. Don't know if this info will be of uses to those getting BCC crash.
