VEGAS Pro Feature Requests
Native support for Panasonic P2 MXF files - that is long overdue. I know there's support for Panasonic AVC-Intra P2 MXF files, but that is an old version, only supporting 720p en 1080i files, max 100Mbps. None of the modern 4K or LT slow motion files in P2 MXF is supported (although these are commonplace for several years). Transcoding is really not a thing that should be necessary nowadays, yet...

It goes without saying that any new version should resolve old instability problems. Nevertheless, that's not what keeps any software package in contention for a real choice as a pro NLE solution. These things are essential : 1) wider support for imported files (Panasonic MXF for starters, the new AVC-intra LT, possibly ProRES RAW (that might be difficult), ...). This is the most basic and elementary demand on any NLE. All regular equipment should be supported. Transcode it first is not of this era anymore. To give an example : original footage of the varicam line isn't working. You can transcode it by DaVinci for example, although Vegas Pro foesn't support most of the export formats of Davinci either. Vegas Pro was once on top of these things, but now sorely behind any other NLE. 2) preview performance. New builds of Vegas keep on popping up, but it doesn't seem to improve. I have davinci resolve on my system and preview there is fluent and never has any hiccup.... It should be up to par with other NLEs, because it's behind the pack there as well at this very moment. 3) modern features. As I read some of you are not interested, but all the 'new' things like HDR (working in ACES without crashing e.g.), support for most common luts, HDR preview and so on - they are all imperative. Any non-free NLE should be able to do this. Otherwise it'll swiftly becoming like a NLE that can only edit standard definition footage. Compatibility with all new and modern standards is of the essence - and it needs to be a key feature. By that I mean, the LUT filter that's available now is just the visioncolor filter and it is slow and while it works, not really performant enough to be part of the standard workflow. 4) the workflow/appearance/interface is what it is - by this I mean that you should be able to choose the NLE you work with because of the way it works and whether or not you like this. It shouldn't be a negative choice (does it support our camera gear? does it support new and upcoming HDR productions? and so on). The workflow and interface is what makes Vegas a choice, with benefits and drawbacks to other software, no doubt. But that doesn't matter - it is a choice. If demands 1-3 aren't met, it isn't really a choice. Sometimes I feel like there's too much emphasis on making a nice sleek interface or enticing users with a new workflow within the NLE, that is believed to enhance productivity a bit. While these things are a good thing, they mean nothing before the first 3 aspects are realised. If you get asked to produce a new Netflix series on Vegas Pro, that shouldn't be a problem. And for now it is. For starters they're shot on Varicam, problem number 1. Secondly - you need to finish it off in HDR, problem number 2. You won't be able to pull this off without at least using one other sofware NLE to help you... The target of version 16 should be (And I sincerely hope it is) to be one of the bunch of pro NLE choices again (if not the best, why not aim high?) - These 4 arguments are the only way to becoma that again.

I haven't installed VP15 yet, but there's nothing in the press release about adding support Panasonic's new UltraAVC codecs (well, new - it's been a while). So I'm guessing that's still not working? It's working. No, it's not. Just installed VP15 and none of the Panasonic Varicam files could be imported. It seems the scope of importable video files still hasn't changed... AVCintra files from professional Panasonic products are not some kind of obscure format - and every other NLE out there supports this : http://pro-av.panasonic.net/en/avc-ultra/intra2k4k.html . I do love working with Vegas Pro, but I (and many others) have been asking this for such a long time. Converting up front is an enormous hassle. If Vegas Pro still wants to be considered as one of the possible pro editing options, it should at least make this list. This is a letdown. Is support for Panasonic pro even planned? Now that we are so honest about a development path and priority within this list : Is the Pana Pro support even somewhere on that list? I was told this was on the list last year, but I'm guessing priority must have been very low. Even then, if we have to wait 2 years for compatibility to be offered, by then the equipment and codecs have probably changed again. (An with half of the Netflix content shot on varicam, this seems a here-and-now thing...)

VEGAS Pro 15 build 177 General Discussion
I own a couple of GH5s. Vegas 15 supports 10bit 422, no problem. Yes, but that is 'normal' H264, out of the Panasonic AVCCAM range. Unfortunately the codecs from the pro & cinema products of Panasonic are not supported. I suspect the new EVA1 files will be working too for that reason.

I do like the look of the interface at first glance. As features were fine as far as I'm concerned, the darker interface is important and adding LUT workflow. Overall it seems very similar - which is a good thing.

VEGAS Pro 14 Update 3 (build 201)
Stability is "half"-fine. I am no longer struggeling with unexpected crashes and stuff like that. Even more so, it is unlikely I encouter a crash during editing. One persistent crashing instance still isn't resolved. If I want to render a project, it crashes after I press the render button. I can counter this by selection all the clips in the bins and deleting them all, apart from the clips that are in use on the timeline. Then, save it to a different project name, close vegas, reopen vegas with the new project - and then it works. It is annoying to have to do so every time you want to render a small portion, but it is the only way that it works reliably. I've had this issues since VP13, I think. It is still exactly the same. I don't know if anyone encountered the same thing, but it is a bit tedious, as you can imagine.

VEGAS PRO 15 UI Concept Design
Looks nice and tidy and the darker theme is best for editing in dark post-production rooms. The ability to undock parts should stay, to accomodate different workflows, though....

If you read this thread, you'll notice that there seems to be quite a few users not looking for the darker UI. That's the beauty with a slider - those that don't : don't change it to darker. I'm sure that there are users that don't want it changed at all, but just the same there are users that do - isn't that all that's needed to justify the *option* of making it darker? And, again - it really is not a matter of taste...

Сome to the dark side! New dark theme for VP14 ?
This is weird. A lot of debate on how it would look. But there is a reason why to go darker. It's not just taste. In fact, I want a darker interface for this reason : whenever I am editing, I am editing in a dark room with a reference monitor hooked up for preview. The reference monitor needs a dark room. If the interface of your NLE is dark enough, your screens (with the UI) won't light up the room you're trying to keep dark. Especially now - my UI is displayed on a 55" 4K screen, beside that is a reference monitor (21.5") hooked up via SDI for preview. Black walls all around. You understand that the 55" screen lights up the room too much as it is. I welcome the slider.... What I don't understand is that there has been a thread for suggestions on the UI. darker was almost uniformly heard - so, there seems to be a chuck of users looking for the darker interface. There is just one thing that you might consider taste : wether the buttons are color or black/white. I found them easier to recognise in colour rather than B/W; but I guess I'm already used to it. I wouldn't mind getting the color back in the buttons - perhaps a slider for the color gain on the buttons :-)

VEGAS Pro 14 Update 4 (build 211)
Thanks wsd. Panasonic support (or more accurately, the lack of it) is a legacy of the former owner for somewhat obvious reasons. For equally obvious reasons, we are taking Panasonic support much more seriously now. Thanks for keeping me up to date on what you need. I am painfully aware what the historic reason is. Yet, P2 support started under Previous ownership, but never worked flawlessly. Magix must indeed drive the dagger home now, so to speak. And -at once- become a viable option in Pro NLE systems. I am merely happy to hear that Panasonic is on the shortlist for updating support (whatever that will mean in reality). If I can be helpful in any way, please just ask. As you might have read, we have made the latest official sizzle real for a Panasonic camera (entry to medium level professional market) that is about to hit the market on Vegas Pro, it is nice to know that in the future Vegas Pro would support al pro cameras from the brand.

By the way, is an update with improved compatibility even in the pipeline, or at least in the backorder list of fixes? (And if test files in any codec these cams can create are needed, I can obviously provide them)

Cosmin_Gurau; Yes, I'm painfully aware of all of that, including the fact that none of it is happening as fast as we'd all like. I take responsibility for making the decisions about which problems we address and the order in which we address them. You keep pushing me, I keep pushing the team, they keep pushing their limits. For me, Vegas Pro is running fine, the updates add nice features, and stability is improving. And we're all still working with it, so we like the interface and the possibilities. I am rather dissapointed that in update 4 there still is no support for the new Panasonic UltraAVC codec (Varicam and Varicam LT). P2 is supported, but only the 'old' 720p and 1080i/p on DVCPRO-HD and AVC-Intra. Non of the new, higher bandwidth codecs is supported. This is a sure bet to drive customers away - lacking support on codecs. And it's not like Panasonic is some obscure little company with a very exotic flavour of codec that's supported nowhere. In fact, it is supported in all mayor professional NLE's (Adobe, Avid, Edius and FCP all support the new 4K AVCIntra). Vegas Pro nowhere to be seen on the official Panasonic roster : http://pro-av.panasonic.net/en/varicam/lt/workflow.html I have no intention to switch to another NLE, unless I have to. Things like this always force me to do so (at least for converting) - imagine the mess I'm in now : get another NLE (not just a converter, they rarely work on higher end codecs), transcode the files (time, quality loss, choose a compatible codec, have extra HDD space for the converted files, ...)... Vegas Pro well deserves its Pro suffix for its features, but if you can't edit one of the major codecs available in the pro segment, it might not be worth its suffix. Anyhow - as I said, I have no intention of leaving, but please fix the support, as you will make my life easier :-) and in one go, make the product viable again for a whole bunch of other video and film professionals.

Hey Magix! Add this to Vegas MX:
- Full P2 support, including the new AVC-intra LT formats - Speed envelope that could go higher than 300% or speed up via properties higher than 4x - Render out to standarised professional formats : ProRes and/ or DNxHD etc... - the ability to make the colour curves window larger and perhaps add numbers to keypoints, so they're reproducable - better stability

New User Interface for New Vegas Pro
There's a strong argument that most of the GUI should be R,G,B 128,128,128 for maximum neutrality. That is still very, very bright for those who will do any color correction in vegas and too bright for all users that preview via external SDI or HDMI on a reference monitor. It doens't have to be black/black/black, but very low luminousity would work best. And it would immediately look updated, even if they keep all the other things pretty much the same...

New User Interface for New Vegas Pro
As Vegas Pro is a tool for professional editors, the interface shouldn't change too much. It may be updated, but everthing must be found in more or less the same place. Otherwise editors will loose too much time and loose confidence. Some small changes are possible : the ability to set a darker interface quickly (with grading this is important) would be a plus for instance...
