4K Chrashes out of memory

rik wrote on 9/1/2017, 8:45 AM

Looking forward to work with 4K files.

Vegas 15 looks promising with the new codecs and its rendertimes.

Previewquality with some 4K tracks seems ok.

But....rendering out to a 4K movie....seems to crash Vegas15 constantly, although i tried different codecs and settings.

The message i get is..."computer is out of memory".

Although i use only 10% CPU and 40% memory?

How come?

So4compoundplug.dll issue?

Tried it out....the crashing is gone now. The rendering now looks good at start but start hanging meanwhile in the renderprocess.

Tried rendering as 4K with Magix AVC/MP4 with Nvidia NVENC, Magix AVC/MP4 wih mainconcept, Magix Prores.

Tried with a custom Sony AVC/MP4 3840x2160....same problem.

I could render 4K in Vegas14 with the Mainconcept AVC...Unfortunally this one is not present anymore in Vegas 15.

So...i cannot render to any sort of 4K file.

You can enable the MainConcept AVC encoder in VP15.

  1. Hold the SHIFT key while clicking Options > Preferences
  2. Click "Internal" tab
  3. Type "Main" in the field at the bottom
  4. Set "Enable MainConcept AVC/AAC Render plugin" to TRUE
  5. If you want GPU rendering and have an old supported GPU, on the General tab check "Allow legacy GPU rendering"

I was also getting rendering crashes with low memory warnings when I had plugins that were using my GPU taking up too much of my video RAM, leaving none for NVENC to do its thing. It may be your GPU RAM running out, not system. I fixed the issue by tweaking the settings in the plugin (neat video in my case) to not use as much VRAM.

Thanks Nick, i could indeed enable mainconcept AVC, but it creates the same problem as with the others in 4K rendering. It stopped at "frame 9" while render time continues, without anything really rendering...had to end the program.

Try working through this: https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/forum/faq-how-can-i-stop-vegas-pro-hanging-or-crashing-during-rendering--104786/

Thanx Nick!...problem solved. 4K rendering works now.

Another way I found to avoid this type of crashes is to encode uncompressed .avi first, then convert the uncompressed .avi in a blank Vegas project or another software to whatever format you want, not using any effect plug-in. But that solution may require a lot of hard disk space depending on your video length. Still faster than encoding using CPU only.
