BORIS FX in VEGAS EFFECTS ???

Bob-Harper schrieb am 02.04.2021 um 18:36 Uhr

Hi-

Since there's not an actual forum for VEGAS EFFECTS as of yet, I'm posting here and hoping it's okay? If I should have posted elsewhere with "Effects" related questions, just let me know for future reference and accept my apologies.

Question I have is whether or not Boris Mocha Pro 2021 and Boris Continuum 2021 would "show-up" in Vegas Effects as well as Vegas Pro 18? I have the Vegas Post Suite.

I had purchased a "NewBlueFX" Chroma Key Pro plug for Vegas Pro 18 and it ALSO appeared in Vegas Effects and works just fine.

I've searched the internet to no avail but perhaps someone here knows the answer and if so, many thanks! '-)

@Bob-Harper Hi, i have Continuum 2021 & Mocha Pro 2021 in Vegas Pro 18, I don't have Vegas effects but yes to Vegas Pro 18, all work no prob 👍 hardest bit is learning as a lot of the tutorial vids are based around Adobe AE,

all are accessible in the Video fx tab & load an adjustment box there.

If you click on the little circle on the track for Compositing mode this box pops up, some are on the pic i posted above but some aren't like Match Move, i guess that isn't an effect it's a Compositor 🤷‍♂️😁

i've got a tab that's called Compositors that can be found in the View tab at the top left of the main layout under Window, it shows these others, they have to be applied to the track not an individual event. they work just like if you clicked Custom on the little circle on the track header, having that tab i don't have to click the circle & can swap compositors over easier,

Thanks Gid...yes, I anticipate a difficult learning curve. Seems like the new trend with software creators, including Vegas Effects et al., is to offer this marvelous piece of digi-matter and say, "Okay, good luck to ya!" In some cases, it almost feels like reverse engineering. Heck, I remember buying Vegas 13 years ago and having the manual printed by Staples or the like and the manual was near 500 pages describing each and every nuance!

From BorisFX's compatibility page on their website:

https://borisfx.com/products/host-compatibility/

Mocha Pro 2021 is supported in HitFilm Pro but Continuum is not supported in HitFilm Pro (other than Title Studio which is part of the 3D Objects unit). With recent and current builds of HitFilm Pro, I've found that BCC does appear and mostly works, but testing last year with the release of BCC 2021 revealed that not every BCC effect worked well especially with many of the BCC+ effects that were new with the BCC 2021 release. No problems with BCC 2021 in Vegas Pro though.

Given that HitFilm Pro is the base program for Vegas Effects, it would likely follow the same situation will apply to Vegas Effects, but I can't be sure about that because I don't have Vegas Effects.

Good to know Dexcon...and you're probably right. I'm getting ready to have a new computer built and once done will be adding Mocha and Continuum. Once done and I get my head wrapped around both, I'll repost here to let folks know of the interaction with "Vegas Effects." THANKS for the head's up. '-)

Ehemaliger User schrieb am 03.04.2021 um 12:20 Uhr

@Bob-Harper Yeah, I'm 53, i've used Magix Movie edit Pro Plus since 2004, stepped up to Vegas & some things are similar but different if that makes sense, but that's what i wanted, MEP is good but basic, I then became aware of Boris's stuff, spent a few £100 on Continuum n Mocha, the amount of stuff in there, Mind blown! 🥴😮🙃 but like i say it's good, that's what i was after 👍 the tutorials can be good but some people talk n click too fast, it's done "just like that" ?????🤷‍♂️

You can see in my Signature my PC is 'ok', more than enough for the ever day work load but now with Boris's stuff added i need a better PC, I'm awaiting a Geforce RTX 3090 24gb graphics card, but i'll need a better PC to put it in, It's a slippery slope all to make pretty pictures 😂😂

Bob-Harper schrieb am 03.04.2021 um 12:26 Uhr

Indeed! Went through all of this in the pro audio world for years back in the day. At least now I've learned how to NOT Knee-Jerk buy. '-) Nice GPU...good luck with it.

Ehemaliger User schrieb am 03.04.2021 um 12:33 Uhr

@Bob-Harper If you are going to buy these, talk to this guy in the chat window, i got a cheaper deal, 25% or more off, the reply was quick, i think they're in the US so there a time difference, i ordered, paid , got an email with activation code & a download link, was installed, PC restarted etc, & up n running within an hr, Continuum has Mocha built into some effects but not all & it only works with that event, so i bought Mocha Pro so it can work independently then apply whatever fx i want to the event/clip. 👍,

Ehemaliger User schrieb am 03.04.2021 um 12:37 Uhr

the GPU is on order n hard to get apparently

Ehemaliger User schrieb am 03.04.2021 um 12:58 Uhr

There is Boris forum, i signed in before i bought, (i think)

Dexcon schrieb am 03.04.2021 um 13:15 Uhr

i think they're in the US

Boston, MA.

has Mocha built into some effects but not all

In fact Mocha planar tracking is not in every but almost all BCC effects - but not as yet in BCC+ effects. If I remember correctly, a Boris staff member responded to a BorisFX forum enquiry some time ago asking if Mocha planar tracking will be added to the new BCC+ effects, and the response was yes, in a future update.

it only works with that event ... so i bought Mocha Pro so it can work independently then apply whatever fx i want to the event/clip

Not quite right if I read your meaning correctly - apologies if I haven't. You can save as a project the Mocha planar track in a BCC effect to a preferred folder and then import that same track into Mocha in another BCC effect. The process is a bit obscure but I've done it many a time. For example, I create a Mocha planar mask and motion track using BCC Brightness & Contrast - say around an overexposed window - export the motion track, and then import that same track into Mocha in another BCC effect such as BCC Color Correction. No problems there at all.

If you need to make a person's face look like those cosmetics TV ads (the 'after' look), then BCC Beauty Studio is perfect because Mocha planar tracking allows you to mask specific areas of the face and 'smooth' the skin. My wife is very appreciative of this though she doesn't exactly know how its done. There's a great tutorial on BorisFX's website about using Beauty Studio from some years ago - lots of Beauty Studio tutorials here: https://borisfx.com/videos/?tags=feature:Beauty%20/%20Beauty%20Studio,product:Continuum&search=

Then there is BCC Pixel Chooser which does a similar job with creating a tracking mask but, I must admit, I haven't used it much at all.

For me, Mocha Pro is brilliant for its Remove tool and some Stabilisation tasks (stabilisation is an entirely different subject though).

@Dexcon Yep Boston it says on my emails & yep Mocha is good 👍 yrs ago I considered Xara to track a mask but Mocha pisses on that, excuse the language. There's so many fx's that i still haven't gone through them all, but i was just trying to emphasise to Bob that having Mocha as an individual is a lot better + it has added features, i've no regrets buying that,

I Export Project so that i can use that shape/tracking & merge it into another track or project. here a made a track of the back doors of my van, this was the only track i had to do

then i created new tracks with the same video clip, applied Mocha, merged that tracking data back in, created a mask/layer for parts of the van, linked that to the merged track layer, Save-Exit, then in Vegas applied colour corrector, (There's no Beauty Studio in the world that would improve the look of my van 😂)

I had time to waste 😂😂

In Mocha there is Export Track & Export Shape but in the dropdown, apart from Boris Corner Pin there's none that i recognise,? in the tutorials they save & paste into Adobe AE. I wonder if you can do that with Vegas effects?
