Vegas 8 no worky in Windows XP 64?

chap schrieb am 26.03.2008 um 01:35 Uhr
I have windows XP 64, and after the upgrade i had a lot of different errors getting the .NET framework just right. so it took me a bit to have the confidence to buy V8.

I upgraded, and now when i try to install Sony Vegas 8 it says the following components are required by this software.

MICROSOFT .NET Framework 3.0
MICROSOFT .NET Framework 3.0 (x64)

i click the install, it goes through the download, etc, then errors:

setup has detected that this computer does not meet the requirements to insatll this software. These requirements must be met before you can install microsoft .NET framework 3.0 x86.

Only x86 platforms are supported

Setup does not support 64-bit platforms.

any advices?

Well, I know Vista 64 and Vegas have no problems with each other, so it's not 64 bit related. My guess is that you did not install dot net properly... check your services and see if it's running.

I would also think about upgrading to Vista. Many people don't like Vista, but most software makers, including Sony are moving FORWARD with vista 64 and are not looking back at XP64. In other words XP64 will not be officially supported on future packages.

64-bit anything has never been supported. You can try running Vegas in it at your own risk, and several people have done so successfully. However, my understanding is that you need to do a bit of manual installation of components before starting to install Vegas. Search this site (now that you can do so) and I'm sure you'll find a lot of tips.

As Blink says, Vista 64 will be the supported OS when an actual Vegas64 ships (probably this fall)

I've been running Vegas 7 and 8 on x64 XP Pro since August of 2006 - not a single issue whatsoever.

You have to make sure you do a clean install of the OS first, then service packs and additional updates, then ALL native x64 .NET installs before doing any installs of software.

There are some caveats as some report, but I haven't run into any of them so far.

Hi,

I opted for XP x64 on my new rig, even knowing that Vegas 8b is not officially supported on it. However, everything runs smoothly and without problems. The system is stable and very snappy and fast!

Knowing the issue with "dot net", I made sure that I had these downloaded and installed BEFORE I installed Vegas, and did not experience any trouble doing the installations in this order. However, hard to say for sure if the installation order is the cause for your problems, but it might be ... And you can always in the preferences disable the media manager that is the only part in Vegas that requires the .net framework... You can really live without it.

Still I feel sad about the fact that Sony decided to support Vista 64 as the only 64-bit OS compatible with Vegas 64-bit! It seems that the common opinion about this OS has not reached SCS. Most serious and corporate (MS OS) users are on XP or XP x64! Just for reference, read this recent article by a respected PC supporting source:

http://www.extremetech.com/article2/0,1697,2276063,00.asp

I am happy with my XP x64 and VP8b, even if not supported officially. The question remains - will Vegas 64 bit work at all on XP x64, or will it work fine but just not being officially supported. I will at least give it a try in september... Aargh... Sony might be the only reason why I must migrate to Vista...

You must install the .nets in order with the critical updates in order one after the other. Then install the latest Sony 2.3 media manager.

Vegas 8.0b working fine here on XP x64. I can't remember if I installed .net framework 3 before or after it.

DVDA 4.5b has an issue that is probably x64 related. I have to disable my DVD drive before I "make disc" or I get a BSOD.

I for one would probably purchase a 64-bit version of Vegas if it's supported or even WORKS on XP x64, but I really don't think I will upgrade to Vista x64 for it now that everything on my PC is pretty stable. I just can't afford the time, trouble and learning curve until there's a bigger incentive.

ok... so a lot of choices here. have heard nothing but BS about vista, so i'll steer clear for a little while, especially since this is a clean OS re-install after my regular XP went to poo-town.

it sounds like i have to get myself back in to .NET hades (last time i went one after another and one would install then another would complain the first wasn't there, then neither would work).

Since all is working with Vegas, Sound Forge, Combustion, 3DS Max et al and i'm really busy i am not gonna make the move until some time.

but thanks, guys

Yeah, I don't think it's a good idea to upgrade a working system to Vista unless you have a really good reason. Get a second system to play with, keep the production system intact. If you're happy with the new Vista system then move over to it.

Happily, SCS isn't too restrictive about how you install Vegas so it's not too much trouble to install and evaluate on a non production system.

well, actually, i did have a few extra minutes so i installed the .net 3.0 and then V8.

it was a success and is running nicely.

i agree that not supporting Windows XP 64 is stinky. But at least i get paid in euros and have a trip to the states in June. Maybe a new system then since everything in (my home country) is like 30% off with the dollar falling.

new alienware at 30% off?

why not.

also long live VEGAS.

Sounds like a great deal. I'd ask you to pick one up for me too, but I'm already here and I don't get the same discount :-(

The fact that they aren't targeting XP64 isn't so surprising. You won't see a lot of driver development for that OS either.

All things considered, moving on with Vista64 is probably the most logical choice for them. Better OS support from MS, new driver models, more driver support from vendors. The main problem is lack of enthusiasm from the customers.
