    RE: My Journey To AV1
I'm hoping Vegas will add native av1 render templates for gpu hardware. I've gotten the best av1 performance and quality readings across the board transcoding with ffmpeg using Nvidia. would they be the same as av1-nvenc render+ in happy Otter as

[Solved] AV1 being REALLY unstable on vegas timeline.
Hey all! So i record all my videos on quicksync AV1, i own and use an intel arc a750 after all. However, using vegas 22 with ANY video that happens to be av1, makes the program 100% unuseable. It crashes so often, do a splice? Crash. Move through

    RE: My Journey To AV1
My only warning is if you don't have a GPU that can decode AV1 in VEGAS, there are quality issues with the software decoder. So fine for output but not for further editing, at least until it is improved. With a compatible GPU I find AV1 looks good

    My Journey To AV1
Last year I started to look at moving from H264 to a more modern Codec to reduce file size and archive my home video. My Camcorders since 2015 are Sony AX100 and AX700 plus some Iphone SE 4k, I choose to shoot in 4K XAVC 100Mb/s, a codec which Vegas

I am not seeing issues with a rendered AV1 file playing back on Vegas 22 timeline. Maybe if you upload a clip we could try it out. forgot to send the clip, but heres a small av1 snippet recorded just now

You using VMAF score as a comparison.Do you aware that some VMAF models (including the one that is default in most programs including vmaf.exe and FFMetrics) are taking into account some video properties that not related to quality? To put it

    RE: Import FFV1
You need to convert it for use in VEGAS. It's not really used for editing. Try AVC, HEVC or AV1.

RE: AV1 being REALLY unstable on vegas timeline.
Special reason for screenrecording gameplay with AV1? I think there're more suitable and easier editable codecs for that purpose.

RE: Question: 8 vs 10-bit HEVC Renders?
AV1 encoding is broken in my testing, there are posts in the forum about it.

oh. thanks by the way for the Shutter Encoder recommendation (on an unrelated thread)--it's a great tool and clearly better for AV1 encodes!

RE: Question: 8 vs 10-bit HEVC Renders?
Do we get a 10-bits-per-pixel option in AV1 in the Vegas beta? I don't see that in the current build of VP22. Here's more (from ChatGPT) on the subject: https://chatgpt.com/share/67f13b63-b86c-8002-a1e9-bf1ec14f2785

Thanks Bruce, I am using MP4 AV1 (replaces H265). I am aware that H266 is starting to make an appearance but is much more intensive to encode and decode. I take your point about lossless ProRes, I must see what file size I get with it.

    RE: My Journey To AV1
P.S. Sure AV1 is more modern, with more features and so provides better quality. I'm not arguing that.  To me it's not better quality, but just same quality at lower bitrates/smaller filesizes. It's all about keeping the quality of the original

    RE: Import FFV1
@aaronstanley75 If you don't want to throw away any of your FFV1 archival detail, you would need to convert to another lossless format Vegas can read. Lossless hevc works but is very processor intensive. There's also a 3rd party lossless codec with

RE: Question: 8 vs 10-bit HEVC Renders?
VEGAS AV1 would be fine in regards to encode quality except for frequent glitched frames in my testing (which doesn't show up in render metrics). There are also decoding issues with AV1 though only when the CPU decoder is used. Hopefully development

RE: Question: 8 vs 10-bit HEVC Renders?
I can tell you anecdotally my own testing says stay away from HEVC and AV1 for SD renders of old DV source. The codecs are optimized for high resolution captures and end up discarding lots of data in SD because the algo mistakes it as noise. Believe
