You need a script. There are several scripts available for this type of activity. Some are free, some are not.

Do you need to keep them as separate files? You could drag them all to the timeline and render one file.

No problems here sending AVI files to Macs.
Adobe's products do seem to handle MOVs better than Vegas but that's kind of logical as they're cross platform. MOVs out of Adobe's apps have given me no issues with Vegas either but I do stick to the basic codecs.

AVIs seem to have less restrictions on what they can contain and what you do with with them. That no doubt contributes to them being the source of some chaos and confusion.
