Not surprising seeing that Vegas is the only one of these three editors still using the archaic VFW and not making use of any graphics card processing whatsoever.
Just dropped an .avi file ( SD ), plays fine. Using preview full or half. I'm still on Vegas8c
Added a couple of full HD ( 1080i captured from Canon HV 20 ) clips on the same timeline, pushed them into each other to get some dissolves, no stuttering whatsoever ( one clip is panning and moving all over the place, shot from a moving car ).
For effects I go to Fusion anyway, so for me adding more effects is usually not an issue, but yes, if you add certain effects vegas will slow down.
Just dragging files onto timeline and doing basic transitions does not slow it down or cause stuttering for me and this is on a 3 year old core2duo laptop with 2GB of ram.
Vegas Preview is a bit behind the times and I would be awfully surprised if SCS didn't already know this. The question should be more WHEN do they plan on bringing it inline with today's level of preview capability.
Hello I work with Vegas since version 4 ... This software was ahead of what was proposed in the competition ... Contrary to Premiere it was stable, and less expensive than Media 100 or Avid. Vegas is always a magical tool, full of possibility, but it is unstable on many computers. Today's competitors offer based on graphics cards to deliver smooth playback ... It is impossible for Vegas on HD projects and now we would like Sony to tell us what is the future for Vegas ... Technically how Vegas will evolve? Will he disappear like Cinescore or... EDIT? The saddest part is that Sony does not communicate with the users of its products on future upgrade ... I can not work with my clients, because the image is unreadable ... Please Sony let us know what you prepare, otherwise we will work with Avid or FCP or Edius ..
