Lars, seriously we get it, you think Vegas is a poorly written piece of junk. What do you expect us to do about your problem?

The Vegas software code is not changing each time you load it, therefore it MUST be something about your machine that is changing. Given the same exact conditions, a piece of software will operate exactly the same each and every time. MY copy of Vegas DOES operate exactly the same each time I launch it. If other NLE software works on your machine, then use it.

No, not JUST on your system, but they are not on mine. Unfortunately, there is no way to tell why Vegas works perfectly on my machine (and many others) and not on yours.

there is obviously something wrong somewhere - but like john, vegas works for me quite reliably.

i'm not saying i don't have the odd hic-up with it, but it's rare.

i think there's something amiss with your system by the regularity of your problems - no professional (of which there are great many here) would put up with what you are - they would either change system, or nle.....

have you tried running vegas on another computer? i'm not saying you need to buy / run it on an equally powerful set as you have, even a humble p4 / c2d would do just to see if all your problems are still occurring. if they are then there's definitely a problem with vegas - if not...

as a professional i sympathise with your predicament, but as a professional i would certainly try as many alternatives as possible before posting my problem here. when i have posted one (yes, i do / did have problems), i have found it / them to be either my problem (codec usually), or a well identified bug.

vegas is NOT perfect, there isn't an nle out there that is.

however, my bve 800 / 900 was foolproof ;-)

I run 9c on Vista 32 and 8c and 9c on W7 64 with no noticeable problems. (Dell XPS 720 Q6600 quad (stock) 4GB RAM RAID5

I would suggest you try one of the hard drive performance apps and try it multiple times and see if there is a significant variation of throughput from time to time. Possibly you have a RAID doing some background processes from time to time. Or possibly you have inadvertantly downloaded some software that is running in the background at times.

Is a virus scanner doing a background scan occasionally and slowing the system down?

Try disconnecting all USB items and check again.

Just some thoughts.

LarsHD:
You might try doing some of the "stupid stuff", like update SATA motherboard drivers, check the bios fans operations, (no variable) put all the Sony stuff in the exception DEP files, remove all software automatic update functions, double the size of your power supply, make sure your CPU fan assembly is secure to the motherboard and not hanging a bit loose with one fastener stripped, install all the latest Windows updates, Cold Boot up with and without an empty disc in your burner and if there is a big difference (jerky/intermittant) you need new SATA drivers, try some different memory chips (brand), check to see how your .nets are listed in the program remove/install section, (you should see at least .net 3.5) , check your latest video card driver, check to see how full your hard drives are, shut down your anti virus or remove it from your machine since they are pretty much worthless anyway, remove Nero if you have it installed as the double GUI raises hell with everything with the newer releases, remove the small temperature CPU monitor software if you installed it (your bios monitors the temp so you don't need anything else).
If you installed windows over older windows that was a big mistake, Un-install windows from your machine and start over by double zeroing all your hard drives then start the re-install. The double zero disc softare stuff comes with your harddrives.
