Correct me if I'm wrong but I seem to remember that the WD Green drives are 5400 RPM are they not? I definitely would not use a Green drive for the operating system!
For WD I would use a Black for the OS (most reliable)

I tried that three times on three clips and could not get the results you do.

The specs on the drive in your link indicates 5400 - 7200 rpm with a 16mb cache.

Compare those specs to this:

http://www.pricebat.ca/Western-Digital-Caviar-Black-640GB-7200RPM-32MB-Dual-Proc-3-5IN-SATA-Hard-Drive.p_10085791/

This is the drive I use. While the problems you have listed probably won't be affected with the drive you have, I would choose the black for the OS as WD rates it more reliable and fast.

Another consideration: Which drive are you using for the pagefile?

The speed of the OS/boot drive has to be one of the least important aspects of Vegas' speed.

how are you controlling pb? jkl? space? enter?

can't remember exactly but your cursor could still be at your old out point - cursor play/stop or play only (jumping back to last point)

making sense?

i'm getting a head ache......

rtfm about creating in / out points in the trimmer. it's pretty much fool proof. also, while you have the manual open, read up about selections.......
