What type of file is it?

Have you tried converting it to a different format? That might workaround your problem.

I get the same application error (exception 0xc0000005), but I only get it when I exit Vegas Pro 8.0. I can open my Vegas 7.0 and I don't get an application error when I close the program, but I can then open Vegas 8.0 and close the application and I get the error. I get the error even if I don't open any .veg files. Just closing the application gives me the error.

I opened a support issue with Sony about the application error about 3 weeks ago, and I don't have an answer yet from Sony. They sent out a bulk email a few days ago saying they were seriously behind in anwsering tech questions because they have soooo many with the new product releases.

I forgot to ask. Are you running a 32bit or 64bit version of Windows? I'm running a 64bit. I don't think it makes any difference in my case, since Vegas 7.0 runs fine on my Windows Pro x64.

You can run a lot of x86 programs okay with Windows 64bit, but some programs like virus scanners and ad-ware scanners won't even install on my 64bit machine. Driver files are usually a big issue with x64 machines. For example, a lot of printers only have x32bit drivers.

I had some problems just getting Sony Pro 8 fully installed. I had to download a .NET Framework app from Microsoft just to get Vegas 8 to install properly. Odd, since Vegas 7.0 was working fine. I dunno. That .NET Framework stuff is over my head. LOL

I'll bet an update will be posted soon to fix these bugs. I wish Sony would let more people beta test the new versions before they release them.

Sincerely,
GreenMartian

I get the same application error (exception 0xc0000005), however my error happens when trying to render a job. tried rendering to mpg, and avi. It will go for a while then stops with this error and same exception. Running Vista 32 bit.
I think it has to be some kind of harware in-compatability, or we would see way more people with problems. Obviously there is a multitude of harware (and even software) configurations which Vegas needs to be able to work with. I get the feeling it has some issues with some of them. Now if we only knew which ones it has trouble with .....
I completely agree with the statement for Sony to do far better Beta testing. I think using (including) some (insert large number) seasoned users on this forum with various system configurations would benefit many users. It may even keep the number of support issues down to a manageble number.
btw, I have not heard a peep regarding my support ticket from a couple of weeks ago...

You could try saving an EDL from Vegas 6 and loading that into Vegas 8. That won't fix the problem, but it will probably get you through this job. Always check the whole project thorougly after using an EDL to transfer it since not everything always makes it through this type of transfer.

A 0xC0000005 error (access violation) is very generic, so if you submitted a problem report saying only that you got that error and you didn't provide detailed steps that would allow anybody else to reproduce the error then the chances that you will get a solution are about nil. If you have the ability to reproduce the problem with a small amount of disk space then ask Sony if you can upload or send them a disk. That may get their attention. If it isn't feasible for you to send them a test case then about the best you can do is hope somebody else encountering the same problem can send a test case.

In the meantime, if this is that important then break out your credit card and call Sony. The human on the other end of the phone line may be able to set you up with a trial version of Vegas 7 to use so that you can get your work done.

You may need to install Quicktime 7 if you have any older version.

Is Quicktime required by VP8 ? I do not have it installed at all.

I'm using Quicktime 7.2, and I still get the application error. I can easily reproduce the error, all I have to do is exit Vegas 8.0 and I get the application error, (0xc0000005). That's too bad for us that it is a generic error message. Maybe I'm lucky since I only get the error when I'm exiting the program. It could be worse. Time will tell. I don't have this issue with Vegas 7 running on the same machine.
