1 vote for hi-res output

Oh dear. I should have tried exporting a project before I went and bought V4. I got so carried away with Vegas' speed and realtime preview that I forgot to check the maximum output resolution. I was importing hi-res files no problem and I assumed output would be the same. Most of my work is hi-res CG. Now I have to go and find some other software to do exactly the same job as Vegas, but give me higher resolution output. Pity. Great software except for the limit.
I can't even brute-force script it?

You can output in any resolution to mpg2,
just change the level/profile to high level, under custom/video.

Well that's good news. I tried a few times but kept getting errors. I'll keep trying. The biggest problem is that I usually have to hand over the data as an image sequence. You folks at Sonic Foundry, there's really no way to get a sequence out at higher than 800*800?
Thanks

No way currently...

...but as of the 4.0b update, Vegas now allows up to 2048x2048 project and render sizes.

with this output limitation is vegas's resolution good enough for TV ads???

what is the best way to render projects for the best quality possible???
Chienworks wrote on 4/14/2003, 3:22 AM
djonimz, 720x480 (NTSC) or 720x576 (PAL) is the standard for digital television. The old 800x800 limitation was more than enough for TV. The new 2048x2048 limit goes way beyond HD specs.

Thanks once again Chienworks,

I am only begining to explore digital video.

My other question was: "To print to tape, how should I render my project in order to achieve the best possible quality? (I use pal)

thanks
Chienworks wrote on 4/14/2003, 9:55 AM
If you're printing to tape through firewire to DV media, then render to AVI and use the PAL DV template. This sets up all parameters and choices necessary for the best print to tape rendering. You can click the Custom button and set the video rendering quality to best, but the difference is minimal and often unnoticeable. Good is usually sufficient and is much faster than best. Don't change any other settings in the template or you may end up with a file that can't be printed to tape.

Thanks SonicFoundry. It's great to have a company that's listening.
2048*2048 makes Vegas a much better tool for dealing with CG animation. Next up an option for exporting tga or tiff sequences from the file menu.

PS Would 4000*4000 be being greedy?

There's already a nice script which exports still sequences.

Would 4000*4000 be being greedy?

It is today, but, as the Magic 8-Ball [TM] says, ask again later.
