10 b fails to launch

cspvideo wrote on 12/22/2010, 4:58 PM
Installed 10 b on my computer. At startup it runs all the way through "creating windows" and then Windows gives me an error message: Vegas Pro has stopped working.

HP Pavillion I 7
Windows 7 Pro 64 bit
12 gb Ram

I did a complete de-install of the 10 a product and then installed it. Same result.

Then I did a complete de-install of 10 b and installed 10 a again and it runs fine.

10b works fine here. Are you sure you were installing the 64-bit version?

Positive.

I just posted a forum question about this same problem and then found this post.

I have an open incident about it:

10.0b 64-bit crashes after upgrade [Incident: 101227-000083]

My 64-bit 10.0b on 64-bit Windows 7 Ultimate crashes on launch, same as yours.

It turns out to be the Excalibur plug in. I re-installed Excal AFTER 10b upgrade and then the program lauched. I verified the fix on a separate system with identical specs that I also own. Same problem before and it was fixed afterwards.

Check your plug ins.

Paul,

Please contact me via e-mail. I'd like to talk to you about Vegas 10.0b and what you see happening with Excalibur. I'll certainly be looking into what changed in the new 10.0b scripting that is causing Excalibur to fail. Looks like some substantial scripting changes were made with this release.

I've now found what was stopping those tabs from loading in Vegas Pro 10.0b. Please try this version.

http://www.jetdv.com/scripts/Excalibur6-0-7.exe

Here are the changes in this version:

1) Fixed an issue where three tabs would not load in Vegas Pro 10.0b.
2) Modified Asset Collector to show all available renderers instead of a selected subset.
3) Modified Auto Save to not save on quick Activation/Deactivation of Vegas.
4) Playback Rate and Undersample Rate now allow 3 decimal places.
5) Added check to prevent multi-cam markers from being added on non-frame boundaries.
6) Added Extract Good Clips can now process only the current selection area/loop region.

Just today my Vegas 10.0b-64bit stopped launching, it doesn't even attempt to launch, I double-click on it and it simply does nothing. I tried going to the Vegas folder to launch "vegas100.exe" manually. Nothing. I even tried running it as an administrator. Still nothing. All other programs, including Vegas 10b-32bit launch fine. I'm running Windows7-64bit. This is a strange one.

UPDATE: 10.0b had been working fine ever since I did the update on December 22nd. Uninstalled and reinstalled 10b tonight, still nothing. Reinstalled 10.0a and now it launches. Weird.

hi jc,

are you saying you reinstalled 10a and 10a's working, or you reinstalled 10a then 10b and it's working?

this is a worry......

I reinstalled 10a and it works, I have not tried updating to 10b again as I have work to do. I will do a full backup and then play with the 10b update.
