I learned most everything on this forum. Although my aunt was state senator (Speaker) in Wisconsin she had no infulence with Sony or Sonic Foundry.

10 years on November, my how time flies

I joined the Sonic Foundry forum when I purchased VV 2.0. I had struggled with and finally mastered Pinnacle's Video Director 200 (a really effective hybrid wort of crossover between linear and non-linear editing . . . you logged all your footage linearly, edited in low res, then compiled from the original source tapes to a second generation destination tape.

Result could be frame accurate if you correctly calibrate the start/stop intervals of your source/destination machines . . . really whiz bang to watch the operation.

Upgraded to Studio 400, a much improved interface, but inherently inaccurate in terms of frame location. Trying to solve those inherent problems led me to purchase my first DV Camcorder, and from there, I ultimately purchased Vegas Video 2.

I just loved the interface, right from the start, although the capture utility left a lot to be desired.

I think the unlimited tracks and the high quality of the audio were the features that initially attracted me to VV.

I joined the Sonic Foundry forum at that point (I'm thinking that would have been 2000) and have been a member ever since. Over the last couple of years, having become an empty nester (no kids, no college students to help with video projects, etc) has caused caused my use of Vegas and this forum to fall off a bit, but an upcoming grandchild and the gift of a new HD cam this holiday season has rekindled my interest.

I have tried to keep my Vegas version somewhat current (on version 10 at present), but cannot say that I have in any way mastered any of the many features incorporated in those upgrades.

I still don't know the purpose of the trim screen and never use it.

But, I can always count on Vegas to accept on its timeline most anything I throw its way.

Sorry to ramble, but thinking back to those early days of my video exploration brings back so many memories.

Thanks to the OP for starting this thread.

10 Years on June 16th. Came here from Pinnacle Studio 7/DC-10. Wow how time does fly.

JR,

I started with Pinnacle DC-10 as well. Still wish I could use that card. It did a good capture of analog.

Dave and I conversed on the Pinnacle forum even before version 6 came out iirc. I still have my DC10+ card on an old Win98SE box to render segments from some old performances.

Mine shows a join date of 2009 but that's because it got really messed up with a Vegas Pro purchase at that time and had to be reset :(
I joined back in the Sonic Foundry days when I bought Vegas Audio 1.0 and have remained a loyal customer ever since.
This is a great forum and I've learned a lot over the years from the members on here.

Spot's link got messed up somehow, but that was one of our more lighthearted and ridiculous threads from this same bunch of oldfarts. Here is the fixed link:

I started with Sound Forge XP 4.5, aka Audio Anywhere.
I believe it came bundled with my SBLive card, which is still working despite the odds.
Since then I've registered ten other titles, according to My Account.

Thanks MV (aka, musicvid) That's right, 9/20/2001. ...active ever since.. at least on the SF and Vegas audio forums. I'm new to video editing though.
Same here, started with Sonc Foundry's SF 4.5. on a Win98se PC and Vegas audio when it came out. Before that, I used a client's SF-3 once or twice, absolutely hated the compressor's sound, non-linked stereo and the adjustment parameters were not conventionally named... as I recall.
Happy tenth to us all. Where's the beer.

I resurrected my DC-10 card only this week to recapture an old Hi8 tape. Plugged it into a fairly new PC running XP Pro, rendered to AVI with Studio 8 then edited with Vegas 10c. Went without a hitch.

Somehow I had overlooked this thread but wow, really? Thanks John Cline for noticing and pointing it out, really can't believe its been that long, Sad thing is I still have more questions than answers! For instance, was it Vegas 3.0 then? As the topic points out its apparently been ten years and memory is getting foggy!

More than anything just a great chance to re-thank all you, I've said it several times over the years in various threads but to say it again: I wouldn't be doing what I'm doing if it wasn't for all of you. I can honestly say that Sony Vegas combined with these forums and you members literally changed the course of my life. I will always be profoundly grateful for the community here that encouraged, taught, explained, tolerated and unknowingly mentored me every step of the way.

Thank you all;

- Ray

11-21-2006 for me, which means I'm still a new kid by the standards of this forum. But I'm chiming in to say thanks to the grizzled veterans (that's a compliment; you've earned your grizzle!) of these threads who have generously shared expertise and experience for which they could probably charge a fee. You guys go out of your way to help newbies like me, remain patient and helpful in the face of our spectacular inexperience (if not ignorance) and don't let go of a problem until it's solved (or the questioner gives up). It's a cliche, but so many user forums out there in the world are patroled by dismissive, boorish know-it-alls who shower their fellow posters with abuse, but this forum is friendly and supportive. It is a great resource for me and it's not overstating it to say that without you guys, I would have given up on Vegas years ago. So thank you, and happy anniversary.

(Hope they don't notice I didn't get them an anniversary gift.)

Hmmm, I've been here longer than I thought - over 10 years. (October 2001).

Back in those days Vegas didn't even do video - the first version was audio only.

Ha, he was actually one I thought of when running through my mental list of "older" audio types. But you're not even close on the annoyance index. I figure if we both keep after Sony for full BWF export and VST on the master surround bus, either they'll come around, or else 'terminate' us both.

Not quite 9 years for me - mostly checking for answers when I have issues, occasionally reading just for the educational value. A great forum!
