Tor,

Just for the record, is the full designation of your camcorder the Sony DCR-PC100e? And what does the "e" stand for? Is this an NTSC camera or a PAL camera?

Since Video Capture controls your camera and Vegas Video does not, that would seem like conclusive evidence that this is a bug in Vegas Video applicable to your model of the camcorder. Perhaps you should submit a formal bug report.

It's PAL, and I've always believed that the "e" said just that - possibly meaning "Europe".

Possible. It HAS worked, but I guess it could be a bug none the less. However, this camera (without the "e") is one of the few mentioned on SF's site as being tested with Vegas.

I'm not sure how much work a formal bug report is (on my part) but I'll send a mail to SF telling them about the situation.

I've got the (NTSC) PC-100.
I also have a Studio DV 1394 card in with Win98se. Was hoping to recreate you problem here last night, but can't. Maybe I need to try that program that you were tying to install/interrupted.......do the same. I love to troubleshoot stuff.
Just for fun....I loaded up the win98se with MGI Video Wave, Studio DV 1, and VV3.0c.
Funny, MGI was installed AFTER Studio, but Studio would not let the DVSoft codec get installed. I have to uninstall Studio, and then reinstall MGI for MGI to be able to render to DV .avi's............all the while VV3, having it's own codec, stood it's ground nicely......capture/render/PTT. You gotta love that. Next I'll throw on Adobe Premiere and Ulead.

Glad to hear you can do what you need to do. You can always try an "upgrade" reinstall of Win98se.....boot with CD in drive, and select "boot with CD ROM support".....something like that. With XP, it leaves everything intact....settings and programs, only unsigned drivers MAY need to be reinstalled(Win XP).

Have fun!

I'll tell you about fun: The Win98 cd has been in and out of my two pcs a lot these days. This morning I forgot it was there and booted up the other PC, the one I have for internet and writing stuff. I use Norwegian Windows version which means that some important folders have different names (like desktop isn't called desktop etc). Suddenly some invisible function had installed US English stuff on the machine and my desktop wasn't its usual self any more. Do you know how hard it is to delete the Desktop or the Programs folders? I had to rename them (that's easy) with unique names, and seach through the whole registry and change the values back to the Norwegian names. Luckily those folders were still intact. It's like being haunted.
