1394 Problem - Vegas - XP pro - Deck - Mt. Dew

After upgrading to Win Xp pro SP2 – my JVC deck will now lose communications via IEEE 1394 with Vegas 5. I’ve ran some Microsoft fixes with no effect. Seems some JVC & Panasonic decks\Cameras will have problems after installing SP2. A Cannon Camera worked fine. So I need my BR-DV600U deck to work of course. If anyone can find a solution that will work – I’ll buy you a six pack of what ever you want.

Thanks

Did you disable the IEEE 1394 networking? That will kill a firewire connection the way you describe. You can do it from the network connections window, or from device manager (the 1394 will be listed under network adapters). When you disable this, your firewire should be good as new.

Thanks Bob
I disable the IEEE networking – That seemed to fix the device connection failures. Also Time Code will display for a short time…BUT TC will still disappear after logging a few clips or if I eject a tape and put in another tape.
So that helped but, still got to get stable TC over IEEE 1943.

Note: the time code seems to be some what intermittent or it plays then it stops and resumes 1 second later over and over; till the TC stops.

Anyone got any additional ideas to try?

Thanks

Are you sure you have continuous TC on the tape. If you take a new tape and simply record on and off again over the tape, the TC will restart each time. I always take a new tape and record black continuously till the end of tape. Rewind, and now you will have a continuous TC on the tape regardless of breaks in the recording. Darryl

Hi Sorry to ask a stupid question but....
Is it possible that Sp2 is looking at a older ohic? Reason I ask is I understand that ohic 1.0 was issued in 1995, ohic 1.1 in 1996 and 1.0a in 1999.
I have read some on the gets and puts and they are quite different (please see) http://h18000.www1.hp.com/productinfo/development/openhci.html
It is my understanding that BIOS burns as late as last year are not playing well with sp2.

If I am wrong please correct me,
Best Wishes,
Marty

Thank you for your replies…
Well as for TC on my tapes are all fine – I’ve got over 100 tapes and all work with my hardware edit system or will work in Vegas if I borrow a Cannon camera to load DV. The same tapes would load prior to SP2. (Stop progress2 as I now think of it)
As for older ohic, I have no clue if that is it. The link about ohic was 160 pages of tech talk to me. I would need instructions on what to look for or what to reg. edit anything.
I do see a fan vent on my computer I could pour my drink into.

Thanks

Ok …I’m sliding a six pack of Mt.Dew onto the table.
It’s yours, if you can solve my problem.

Thanks
