fred-m wrote on 10/29/2007, 4:47 AM
Using m2t files from a Sony HDR-HC7 With Sony Vegas MS Platinum 7.0 (With Windows Vista 4Gb ram)
Project set to 1440x1080x32;25

Whatever I try to render (make movie) after about 2 seconds I get a program crash (program not working). Tried this with 4 files totalling about 1:50 seconds.

Tried rending to avi, mpeg2 1080 & 1080-50i intermediate

Anybody any hint.

How much RAM your PC has? Also, make sure you run the latest graphics driver for your card.

Then, also change the number of threads on the "video tab" of the main Vegas Settings/Preferences from 4 down to 1, and retry.

If the crashes persist, re-install Vegas. And if they still persist, file for a bug report using the online mail form.

What Manufacturer DV tapes are you using? Sounds similar to corrupted m2t files when capturing.
Corrupted m2t HighDef files can crash the program (any program).

I suggest maybe downloading the trial version of VMS 8 Platinum for working with HDV video. The price for upgrading from version 7 to version 8 isn't very expensive either.

If capturing and rendering using VMS plat 8 trial produces the same results I would contact tech support.

Ram is 4GB = 3,5 actual used by Vista. Drivers as new NViDEA Direct X 10.
But I think the problem is memory related. Did a memory test on the system = ok.
Disabled in view the pictures in the timeline because that consumes a lot of memory and somthing goes wrong. After a time some pictures become black.
It looks like a memory handling problem in Vegas or Vista.
Now it renders a 15 min project to Mpeg2. Without a direct crash. But the last 2 minutes (sometimes last 1) on the rendered file are black and windows crashes completely after exiting Vegas.
Set threads to 1 no result.
Maybe 15 minutes is too long

Use Sony recommended tape, and files show ok in differend programs without any problem.
If I hadnt bought Version 7 only a couple of months ago.
Rather liked them to make stable version first and not to update to a new version that fast.

Did two memory related? updates Windows6.0-KB940105-x86.msu & Windows6.0-KB936710-x86.msu and set the treath to 1
Rendering to mpeg2 looks ok.
Now I get an error from Vegas for the first time when trying to reder to WMV. Vegas reports: Memory low. Visas says 1,37 G in use = 42%.
