15 min. saves with 3d compositing????

Wow did I just waste a whole afternoon.

So I'm working with Vegas 5.0b build 106 on my new duel Xeon 3.2 ghz with 2 gig ram and I am working on creating a 1 min. long 3d composite scene.

Here's the parent child setup

Parent - empty event - set 3d
child - no event set 3d
12 grandchildren set 3d. I have used both gen. media (solid color) and misc. avi's because I'm just comping the scene.

I get a hellaciously long save (15 mins) once I set the12 grandchilderen to 3d. The worst part is the auto save. Ouch.

Any ideas?

thanks

No clue, but I thought I would tell you that if you are working on only one instance of Vegas, it's best to turn off the HT in BIOS with those XEON processors.

Thanks Dave for that tip/reminder regarding turning off HT.

I am assuming that putting 12 grandchildren 3d tracks under a child who is under a parent and all set to 3d isn't a "no no".

There has got to be a glitch in my hardware somewhere. the 3d engine does not use OpenGL? Correct? I'm wondering if it could be my graphics card which is some version of an ATI Radion chip. What ever Dell throws into it's workstations.

Any thoughts are welcome.
