16:9 square pixel is pillared in render?

I have a mixed media video in Vegas 12, project properties are 1920x1080, progressive, square pixel, NTSC, 8 bit, best render, Gaussian motion blur, no de-interlace, adjust media unchecked. the media has all been cropped to 16:9 widescreen TV aspect ratio. I render it to any of the default 1080p templates (with the "=" by them) for playing on a computer/tablet, which have 1920x1080 displays... and the file plays with pillars? What am I doing wrong?

Silly question, what are your source media properties?
Dr.z4pp wrote on 11/18/2014, 2:57 PM
The source media is all over the place- bunch of pictures from different cameras, and some video. That is why I cropped all the pictures to 16:9 using "event pan/crop". The videos are all shot in 1080p so they are already 1920x1080.
Also, everything looks like it should in the Vegas preview window.

I thought 1.333 is HDV and HD is square?

If you are sure you cropped everything to 1.778AR (16x9), then you have a couple places to check the AR:

- Project Properties (take out the 1.3333 if it puts it in, change it to Square pixel [or I like to put in 1.2121])

- Render Properties (again, take out any 1.333 if it's there and change it to 1.2121)

Since VMS11, I have no idea what Vegas is doing when it tries to use "1.333" but it never worked out for me... through trial and error I figured out that "1.212" works, giving a 1.778 output (when wanting 16x9)

Hope that helps!

you may well be correct old smoke ;-) perhaps the op is rendering at 1.333 (4:3), hence the pillar boxing?
