16X9 auto-detect

When I put a widescreen DVD in my computer, the player software automatically recognizes it as 16X9 or 1.85, etc, and the player window is appropriately proportioned.

When I create a video in Vegas that is letterboxed, it still registers as 1.33; many widescreen televisions will also not play it widescreened; rather, then 1.33 box will play in the center of the TV screen.

How can I take DV footage and force the top and bottoms to be excluded from the cut and the output be rendered as true widescreen?

If you output letterboxed footage, this is a 4:3 frame with black bars top and bottom, and your player is recognising it as such..

To output true widescreen, use the widescreen DV template in Vegas, match the video to output aspect, which will cut the top and bottom, and render as widescreen.
