17 Plat - Crashing during render & error message on open program

Joey-Lucas wrote on 9/24/2022, 9:32 PM

Hi everybody!

HISTORY AND PROBLEM

I use VEGAS 17 PLATINUM.

It was working fine but I imported incompatible stock footage and it was slow to render so I did a few fixes off youtube on speeding up render times:

I also deleted the temporary internet files by typing %temp% in the dialog box.

It made it worse.

Now I get crashes every time I try to render no matter if it's to mp4 or HD. Even on projects that rendered fine before this.

When I open a tutorial in vegas and muck around and save and render that the rendering is superfast and no issues.

The other thing that started happening at the same time as this rendering problem is that I keep getting an error message on start-up of the program: ''the last session did not complete properly......would you like to restore the autosaved project''. Regardless of whether I select 'yes' and resave it OR 'no' and close file and exit, the message keeps poping up every time I open Vegas. Even after I reboot my computer.

The last thing I did to try and fix the above problems was hold SHIFT and open OPTIONS, PREFERENCES and on the INTERNAL TAB I wrote 'true' next to the option resent to settings to default every time program opens.

Even this did not help.

ABOUT MY SYSTEM

I am on MICROSOFT WINDOWS 10 HOME.

My computer is 1.5 year olds computer Dell G5 5000. X64 based PC. Intel (R) core (TM) i7-1-700F CPV 2.9Ghz 2904Mhz, 8 cores, 16 logial.

It is a gaming computer so it's powerful enough and worked perfectly until I did what youtube said/imported incompatible video and the above changes. So it's not the computer, unless I have inadvertently changed something in my operating system or drivers etc?

I also have the MAGIX effects bundle purchased.

How do I reset all the settings in Vegas and get rid of the error message that keeps popping up and stop rendering crashing?

Is the easiest thing to do just to reload Vegas program again?

Will Ioose my effects bundle if I do that? I have the activation code but don't these codes only last for 2 or 3 goes?

THANK YOU IN ADVANCE FOR ANY HELP

Joey

@Joey-Lucas  Be wary of what you find on Youtube.

Try a "factory reset". Instructions here https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/forum/faq-how-can-i-reset-vegas-pro-to-default-settings--104646/ Whilst written for VP it also applies to VMS. Make sure you tick the box to clear the cache.

Thankyou EricNLZ. It got rid of the error message but I still cant render. I am told that Windows 10 updates have created issues with Vegas 17 that will never be fixed. Could this be the issues since it is STILL not rendering properly?

BTW does anyone know how to disable updates on Windows on a PC? I don't want them cos they create issues with existing software all the time!!!

does anyone know how to disable updates on Windows on a PC?

Many people wish there were a means to turn off Windows update, but it would not seem possible other than delaying updates for up to 7 days.

The only alternative is to keep your computer offline so that your Windows 10 OS can't regularly go in search of updates.

@Joey-Lucas Which Windows 10 build do you have?

Also please elaborate on "I am told that Windows 10 updates have created issues with Vegas 17 that will never be fixed". The only issue I'm aware of is with some audio streams which was fixed but in doing so the Quicktime plug-in got broken. That shouldn't affect rendering.

Another thought - try uninstalling and reinstalling.

I think the file is corrupted. I opened an old file and it rendered fine. This file I am trying to render has stock footage and I think is a different format and that is why. I have soooooooooooooo many edits on the project plus effects put in that took me weeks to do....is there any way I can save the tracks with their effects locked in time and reimport them to a new project? Its a music video so the timing is crucial for the fades scene changes etc.

Joey-Lucas wrote on 9/25/2022, 4:44 AM

also, I am using Vegas Movie Studio VMS17 Platinum

Joey-Lucas wrote on 9/25/2022, 4:44 AM

it is BUILD 223

Joey-Lucas wrote on 9/25/2022, 4:45 AM

I am running Microsoft Windows 10 Home build 10.0.19444 BUILD 19444

Try converting the file with Handbrake, a free file convertor, to a mp4 file. If that works then in VMS go to the Media pane and select your original problem file. Right click and there's an option to Replace. Select your Handbrake file as its replacement. Then on your timeline the new file will have all your edits, FX etc.

I will try that thanks

I am getting an error message when I try to open the dowloaded file; It says:

'to run this application you must install missing frameworks for .NET

would you like to download now?'

I hit yes and nothing happens.

Joey-Lucas wrote on 9/25/2022, 5:59 AM

Ok I checked and it says NET is already installed so I am not sure why I get the error message? Is there another program I can use?

Dexcon wrote on 9/25/2022, 6:07 AM

Check the following to make sure the correct .NET Framework is installed:

In Windows 10:

  • Go to Apps and Features (from the Start pop up context menu)
  • Click on Programs and Features (top RH corner under the Related Settings heading)
  • In the window that opens, select 'Turn Windows features on or off' (top LH corner)
  • In the window that opens, the first checkbox should be '.NET Framework 3.5 (includes .NET 2.0 and 3.0)'
  • Click on the twistee (little arrow) for the above entry and check both checkboxes for the 2 sub-entries

Windows should then ask if you want to install .NET Framework. After it installs, the computer will need to be restarted.

If all of those checkboxes are already checked, then that likely confirms that those .NET Frameworks are installed and the problem unfortunately lies elsewhere.

YES. ok I done that. I REPLACED the stock footage after I converted it to MP4 in Handbrake. Made no difference. It's this one project only. ALL my others work fine. I just re-checked all other projects. All of the older ones render in minutes. This one is corrupted. So, can it be fixed????

I tried re-saing - no luck. I re-saved various ways. Even copied and pastes entire project to a new file. No luck. Same issue - it just won't render. It just times out and crashes at around 25%.

If this project cant be fixed, how do I extract the tracks from the corrupted project including their effects and locked in time where they all are? This is vital cos it's a music video so all the fades and cuts and effects etc must be 'in time' to the track. Help!!! It too a month to make the music video clip. It plays perfect in preview but wont render out. I have ways just gone 'make movie' and chosen mp4. I have never used 'render as' option ever. It's always worked before with 'make movie' and still works that way for all other projects. This one I think got corrupted by stock footage!!!!

DR ZEN told me recent updates on Windows 10 creates issues with surround sound and other stuff but I dont know what other stuff. I dont use surround sound. I make rick videos so I dont care about that...but I winder if some of the other problems are causing this glytch????

*rock......not rick!!!! Haha

The 5 channel audio and Quicktime problems are the only unfixed issues that I'm aware of. They shouldn't affect your rendering.

If your handbrake file render is crashing at 25% then something you are doing at that point on your timeline is probably the problem. Have a look at what is there.

Joey-Lucas wrote on 9/26/2022, 8:48 AM

Got it all into handbrake. Replaced still crashing. How do I export the edits with their effects track by track so I can rebuild filmclip in brand new project with final edits rather than rebuilding from scratch?
