I have render'd a 2hr dv mpg2 file ready to write to dvd and it it came out at 7 gig and wont fit on a dvd, is this normal.

How long / short must my project be to fit on a dvd ?

In vegas i used the render as: main concept mpeg2 file - dvd pal - description = audio 224kbps, 48,000hz, layer2 video 25 fps, 720 x 588.

It says, use this setting to create a pal dvd compiant mpeg-2 file.

What settings do you use.

Any replys would be most apreciated :-)

Depends on what bitrate you encoded it. But, yes, that CAN be right. Render at a lower bitrate and the file will be smaller. For 2 hours with AC-3 audio, I would try an average bitrate around 4,800,000. It MAY need to be slightly lower depending on the complexity of your menus.

Do keep in mind that while lowering the bit rate will enable you to fit more on a DVD, the video quality will also suffer.

Consequently, if you want to keep the video at the highest possible resolution, split the file in two and use two DVD's.
