2 Monitors set up?

Hi helpful people,

I am now a proud owner of a Vegas loaded laptop, and would like to make my old vga monitor as my preview monitor if that is possible. I have the monitor hooked into my vga port on my laptop, but it just duplicates everything. Went through the properties on the preview monitor set up, but couldn't figure out how to get just the vga as a preview monitor. Is this even possible, and if so, how do I do it?

Thanks a lot!

It's possible in the newest version of Vegas to have a second montor and use it to preview your edited event.

First, with the monitor connected to your laptop, get to the display properties for the operating system. You can get there by right clicking on any area of your desktop that doesn't have an icon near it.

Pick properties and then pick settings.

You should see a graphic representation of two monitors with a 1 in the left one and a 2 in the right one. Click on 2. Check the box below to "extend my Windows desktop to this monitor."

Open Vegas.

In the box where you get the small preview display there is an icon a bit left of center that permits you to adjust the properties of the Vegas preview. In area you can elect to send the preview to another device. From the drop down list select "secondary display." Then click OK.

Of course, if your video card in your laptop doesn't support two separate displays none of this really matters. Some laptops power a second "mirrored" display but they do not support a second individual display.

In the case of my VAIO, I can't make the external be my preview, I can only make the internal be preview, but the external is my second monitor. However, it takes over as primary monitor. It works, although it's a minor irritation to have my timeline on the 2nd monitor, and my preview on the first monitor. The video card won't support letting me flip the two.

thank you for that quick response! I did all you suggested, but can only get the same info on both screens. Does this mean i don't have dual screen capability? Both montors contan the same screen.

thanks

In my VAIO, and on most computers, right click the desktop, choose Properties, then go to Settings. Then "Extend my desktop" and you should be set.

Mine must not be able to do that, cos I did that too but both monitors always show the same.
thanks anyway.

Hey Spot,

Don't know if you've got the same GeForce To Go chip in your VAIO that I have in my PGC-250PR, but on mine, if you go to the "Advanced|Adapter" button of the display properties, you can get to a GeForce dialog that lets you set which is your primary monitor.

There's a couple of options there, called "Default Monitor" and "Multiple Monitors." Try playing around with these and you should be able to get it set the way you want.

I've tried, Brian, but thanks for the point. If I keep my external monitor at the same resolution as my laptop, I can use either one for main monitor. However, the moment I increase the resolution, the secondary monitor becomes primary no matter what I set in either advanced or display settings.
