O...K... What are you trying to achieve? 😐

allan-felipe wrote on 3/28/2018, 3:07 AM

To mimic as close as possible the workflow of the DAW I use (Pro Tools). I imagine it won't take me as far as if I learn the software as it is, but it gives me some sweet instant familiarity :) Tab goes to the next transient in Pro Tools, I would make it go the next marker. Horizontal zoom would be R/T.

Ah, understood. Interesting. I've just gotten "into" PreSonus StudioOne 3 Pro and yeah, the KS mapping sets are divergent and not convergent. I'm not a Power-User of my new DAW - don't think I ever will be - so I'm content to stumble along with my CSP and FaderPort8.

Hmm, I'll give your wishes some further thought and maybe I can discover something for myself too - whilst traveling this road.

Thank you. I'm able to find the "Cursor to Right by Edit" and I also can see "Tab" already assigned to another task, so I believe it's possible to use this key.

Yes, custom keyboard shortcut assigning is in the 'Options' menu. If another process has the desired key assignment, change or remove it .

allan-felipe wrote on 3/29/2018, 4:15 PM

Yeah, I'm aware of that, however I'm not able to input the "Tab" key as a shortcut because when I press it, it acts as a Tab key, changing the focus of the input field to some button. I'm also unable to find the horizontal zoom to be modified, so I wanted some confirmation that it's actually impossible to change it. Thanks.

I guess you can't use the tab key for shortcuts then.

Lots of ways to change horizontal zoom, mouse scroll wheel; up/down keys; up/down arrows on bottom & right timeline.Vertical zoom: Ctrl/Shift up/down) or your own custom keys (w/o Tab). There's a list of Key shortcuts in the help menu as well.

I find Vegas much faster to work then 'SloTools'. Fewer steps getting from point A to point B.

Yeah, I imagine there are faster workflows if I learn Vegas properly :) By the way, "Tab" is already assigned to "TrackView - TrackView.FocusToNext" and this can be seen in the Customize Keyboard option, that's why I believe there's a workaround to make this key available.

I think I figured out how to do it, but boy it is a challenge and a bit risky. From what I can tell, if you make a Custom keyboard map, the exceptions to the default are saved in the KEYBOARD.INI file. Here you can make your commands available by TAB. I am not sure I can explain how to do it, but if you edit the KEYBOARD.INI file with the new commands, it might work.

You think 🤔?  This is NOT for me.

That's a great idea! I was messing around with my ProTools.ini, but before that ... I realized that nothing happens when I press Tab (which is assigned by default to FocusToNext in TrackView and SelectNextTrack in Trimmer). Is this shortcut funcional to you, guys? I thought my Tab could be somehow broken inside Vegas, but I'm able to use Ctrl+Tab as a shortcut.

Unfortunately I realized that writing "Tab" inside the .ini file has no effect. When I open Vegas, the key is empty like I didn't write it. But I made some tests trying to change some other shortcuts and the idea works. Such a nice key, right there ready to be pressed, what a waste ;( I also noticed I'm unable to use Shift+Letter as a combination for navigation shortcuts, would these be Vegas limitations or I might be doing something dumb?

Tab does what it is assigned to do in my version 12 of Vegas. If I hit tab, it goes to the next (in this case, the PROGRAM MONITOR window) and then back to the Trackview window. If I have Mixer View open, it goes to the next audio track and Shift tab goes to previous audio track. What are you wanting it to do? Maybe I can figure out the command.

allan-felipe wrote on 4/1/2018, 7:08 PM

Ok, I have the Tab behavior in Mixer View as you described :) It still has no effect in Trackview neither in Trimmer, but that might be some beginner issue. What I'm originally trying to do is to designate the Tab key to CursorTo.RightByEdit (Options/Customize Keyboard/TrackView). This is the behavior of Edit/Navigate/Move Right by Event Edit Points.
