208 Update Issues - Timing Out

Phil_P wrote on 12/13/2023, 1:30 AM

Creating new thread, as requested in the update forum.

Links to download the actual installers, in the News thread are timing out here, (Dubai, UAE). (Yes, I know we can auto update or use the main installer, it is preferable for me to have the actual full installers.)

Also, the general installer is timing out. Sat at 0% for 10 minutes so far. Then goes into pause mode. Then after starting again, hangs at 0%.

Cheers, P.

@Phil_P Your browser or antivirus program is probably blocking the download.

I am on Edge; (I know this is chrome based). I have been using this to DL all other Vegas updates since who knows when with no issues. Also, this would not explain why the actual installer is timing out (see screenshot above.)

Of course, immediately disabled AV and FW (only using Windows stuff) or other things. Tested on multiple other sites no issues here.

Just tested again, using the direct links provided. And also tested the Vegas main installer (download manager) application after re-downloading it from my Magix account (which downloaded fine), Both are still timing out.

Most likely this is a CDN issue in my area or a server issue. Which is why I mention my location in case anyone is in this region.

I notice that some folks already got the download earlier. Has anyone tried it recently? (Like in the last few hours).

Cheers,

What if you use the direct links from here?

Thanks for the suggestion jettv

I tried both:

  • VEGAS Pro 21.0.0.187
  • VEGAS Pro 21.0.0.208

From that page. Both are still timing out.

  • VEGAS Pro Edit 21 trial installer

Downloaded instantly.

Also:

  • Mocha VEGAS 9.5.8.20

Downloaded instantly.

I thought I should add again, please note that the Vegas Download Manager (vegasprosuite21_dlm_47zge9.exe)

is also timing out when I try to get the update using that method. :-)

I recommend auto-updating as you usually would. Once you do this on one system, the exe installer will be found here.

C:\Users\**username**\Documents\MAGIX Downloads\Installationsmanager

**username** = name of your Windows profile

Hi Eric, thanks for your reply.

Usually, I would download the direct links, as the in-application update has always been slow for me, since it was introduced.

I did already try the in-application update yesterday and got the same results as now, it does nothing at all. It just hangs on 0% (I waited for at least 15 minutes).

I have been with Vegas since the very first version and have never had this issue. (I have lived and worked in the Middle East since 2013). And of course, please note I was able to install the V21 application when it was released (108 I believe) and the subsequent update to 187 with no issues at all.

Thank you, P.

OK I thought some of you might be mildly interested to know how I solved this. After jumping through all the usual hoops resetting browser, network, router, flushing dns, firewall off, av off, different networks etc. etc. It occurred to me that this has to be a service provider issue. Seeing as every machine I have is incapable of getting the download.

The filename contains the word VEGAS and gambling is illegal here in Dubai, (I am not commenting on that just explaining) so I thought maybe they have blocked some of this thinking it is related to gambling or "Las Vegas". Some sites get mistakenly blocked here and when that happens it is pretty much impossible to sort it out.

So, I have now reinstalled and subscribed again to Express VPN.

Once enabled (using UK location) the file downloaded immediately.

The problem may not be the word "VEGAS" since that appears in other places that work fine here, but maybe the cdn proxy itself? Who knows.

The odd thing is that I never had to do this before. Right up until this update I have always downloaded the latest update using the direct link.

However, the VPN is useful so no problem for me, except it costs of course.

I wonder if maybe this whole thing can be passed on to the Magix Network / IT guys so that they could consider a solution for the future...

Cheers, P.

That's both bizarre and fascinating- thanks for sharing your finding!
