I was told that when printing to tape i should use 24p template with 2:3 pulldown. I was wondering whether it's the way the big movie companies do it when converting theirmovies to -- say VHS or DVD? Or are they converting their material to 29.97i?
All feature movies have 2-3 pulldown applied when transferred to NTSC video. For VHS and some DVDs, the extra pulldown fields are on the tape or disc. For most modern DVDs, the pulldown fields are generated by the player using the TFF/RFF flags encoded in the MPEG-2 stream. Vegas 4.0b can render to either form; the latter uses 20% fewer bits to encode your 24p video, which you can use for more content on your DVD, or for higher bitrates and therefore higher quality video.
