The DVDA help file says that a 24p MPEG-2 file must have been rendered at 23.976 fps with 2-3 pulldown. However, it appears I can render a 23.976 fps MPEG-2 file (without 2-3 pulldown) in Vegas and DVDA uses this just fine without recompression.
As an example, if I render a 24p animation in 3DS MAX or Maya and then bring the animation frames into Vegas for editing, it seems there should be absolutely no need for 2-3 pulldown, right? I mean, the source frames were rendered at 24 fps without interlacing. So in this case, I use the 24p DVDA MPEG-2 preset in Vegas except I change the "23.976 fps with 2-3 pulldown" setting to just plain-old "23.976 fps." I do this because I don't want Vegas to perform pulldown when rendering the MPEG-2 file, because the timeline is already entirely native 24p material.
It seems that such a 23.976 fps (without 2-3 pulldown) file works just fine in DVDA, and does not cause recompression. But since the help-file doesn't mention this as an acceptable format, I'm wondering if I'm doing something wrong?
