I doubt you would notice a difference in using either with Vegas.

You could look at some comparisons of the gpus online, I am not sure where the rx series falls in line with the r9 series.

Well given the following:

  • r9-390x - 44 Compute units - 512bit bus = 5900 GFLOPs
  • RX-480 - 36 compute units - 256 bit bus = 5100 GFLOPs

I would go with the card that has the most bandwidth and compute units.

RX-480 has the latest feature sets for other apps, so you have to make a choice of what your primary task with machine is.

Other questions would be;

What does the rest of the system look like?

What is your current workflow, and is your source media optimized for vegas or should you be transcoding to an edit intermediate?

After comparing prices on newegg, get the 480x by msi. It is $180 after rebate, the 390x is out of stock @ $777. By some more storage & more RAM instead. Maybe even go on a weekend away with the $ you save with the 480!

Per my other post on Vega. i would wait to see what Vega looks like in Q2, it should coming out shorty after NAB. Then the rest of the cards will drop in price again.
