25p rendering

glpride wrote on 5/27/2012, 2:17 PM
my sony vegas gives the option to shoot in 25p, 50i or 50p ..... i can't find any rendering options for rendering 25p footage ..... Camera hints that 25p is like shooting with film ..... 50p if your wanting to slow things down ..... but there are no 'matched' rendering settings for 25p (comes up as CUSTOM in the properties box.

Am I having a 'blond' moment?

It depends what your output is. For DVD 25p is OK but for Blu-ray 25p is non-standard.

25p is non-standard for both DVD and BD; only 50i/60i and 24p are standard (plus 50/60p, but only with 720p)..

I have no problem authoring my 25p DVDs and BDs - just remember your material is really 25PsF (Progressive Segmented Frame), and - while behaving like progressive - is fully compatible with 50i stream. So, for your DVDa or BDs, use the 50i template - you will get jaggies on a computer screen (if your sw player cannot de-interlace*), but not on your TV.

On the other hand, you can find "standard" 25p in output formats such as MXF, for example.

PS. * The only correct method of "de-interlacing" PsF is Weave, as it just sums the fields up and doesn't lose vertical resolution!

Hi - i looked at MXF .... there is plenty options for 50p, 60p, 24p .... but not 25p !!

If you have your project and media in 25p, click Render as and check the "match" option - you will get 25p MXF template.

I'm afraid I don't get this option - in fact I get no video rendering options that match the 25p footage - only audio templates show up as matches.

Further there isn't a 25p renedering option in the MXF list - there are only 24p, 50p and 60p options

You still didn't say what you want to do with the footage. If you want to view it from Windows, render it as video for Windows (.avi), go to custom settings and use the codec of your choice that handles HD 25p (I like the free Matrox MPEG -2 I frame, but there's a whole heap of others)
