2nd drive causing trouble with dropped frames

HI -
I am new to the world of non-linear editing.
I am running a pc at 1000 MHz and have a 20 Gig 7200 HD.
I just added a 40 Gig 7200 rpm drive.
VV recommends having a second drive devoted only to
capturing video so I added the 40 GIG.
When I capture to the 20 gig drive I never get a dropped
frame but when I capture to the new 40 gig tons of frames
start to drop immediately.
The original 20 gig is drive C (master)
The new 40 gig is drive D (slave)
Is that configuration causing trouble?
Does the video capture drive have to be the master??

What could be the cause of the massive frame dropping with
the new drive.

Many thanks for any help with this problem.

I just answered my own question but I'll post it in case it
helps another novice.
You need to check the DMA setting on the hard drives in
windows. I had C: set for DMA access but did not do this to
the new drive. Now that D: is configured for DMA access, no
frames are dropping.
Hee Hah....
