3.0b bug - print DV from timeline

Luxo wrote on 6/11/2002, 10:21 PM
Greets,

I tried to "print video to DV tape" from timeline after installing build 128 and hit a killer snag. After rendering the .w64 audio file, it popped up an error screen saying Vegas couldn't access that prerendered file, and to make sure I have proper access to read and write from the drive.

Sure enough, the file existed, and all the permissions were properly set for the drive and the file itself. I can access the file perfectly from Windows Explorer.

Uninstalling Vegas and Re-installing build 107 fixes the problem, and I was able to print to tape from timeline.

The video in question is 1 hour and 4 minutes long.

SF, please let me know whether you can repro this, and how I can help. Look forward to seeing it fixed.
Thanks--
Luxo

I don't repro this on Win2k. Where is the .w64 being saved to? Also, what OS?

I am having the same problem as Luxo. Mine is a 2hr 10min program. Windows XP 1.9 gig p4 chip, 512 mb ram.
Didn't have this problem till i installed 3.0b. 2 days work down the drain if I have to redo the project.

Why would you have to redo the project? If you must go back to 3.0a, just render the project to a single .avi files, uninstall, reinstall 3.0a, drag the .avi to the timeline and then print to tape. No need to actually redo the project.

file>properties>video>prerendered files folder: what is this set to?
PVTCO wrote on 6/12/2002, 1:32 PM
On my video drive. K/Vegas prerenders/ Progect name.
This is the same folder I used with 3.0a. I also made a new folder for the prenders on my other video drive. I had the
same problem.

I am also struggling with this bug on win 2K. Have to deliver ASAP.
Is there any more progress?
Thanks

We have reproduced this error and will have a fix posted soon.

Short term workaround:

1) save your project to a new file name (EX: "myproject_FIX.veg")

2) Right-click next to any timeline marker, choose "Markers/Regions"> delete all.

3) You should now be able to render to wave64 (.w64), and you will also be able to print to tape.

If anybody still has problems after following the steps above, please post here- we are watching this thread closely. We regret the error and will post a fix as soon as possible.

And I thought it was me - I simply rendered the project as a PAL DV file and then did a Print to Tape - mind you mine was only ten minutes.

Things happen when you update software. Something you do here effects something else over there that no one expected and so forth. It just happens with upgrades.

If this were Pinnacle, you would be screwed for about 6 months.

So, many kudos to SF for fast responses, a temporary workaround, and a promise of a quick fix.

You can fix this w/o having to delete your markers. The problem occurs if those markers do not have labels. If you need to maintain the markers in your project and need to print to tape with 3.0b make sure that they all have labels.

SonicIMC:

Hmmm... from the date stamp it looks like you're burning the midnight oil on this one. I commend your dedication.

I always find it fascinating how making a slight tweak here can cause an intended consequence there when one is dealing with complex software.

Yeah, awesome job on the troubleshooting, guys. Thanks for the workarounds until you get a patch out.
