3-2 removal HD and DV

Will VV remove the 3-2 from Panasonic HD,or Sony HD imported like it does for the DVX100? I have been working with some HD I had transferred to minidv; it of course does not have the flags for autoremoval. This stinks. I have to take anything telecined, or transfered from a 24p, and run it through After effects, then back to Vegas. I need twice the storage. It can't be that difficult to provide a utility to do this, an interpret footage function, PLEASE. I know a lot of people that are working with 24p in Vegas, it's not all JUST DVX100! Slowmo, and all manner of effects are affected negatively, render time has to be longer too. Man I wish I knew how to write a utility.

I am curious as to how VV is reading those files...if it reads them correct on the HD side. I ask because I was doing things with AE and when they open in VV they never read as progressive. I was told by SonicDennis or SonicEPM (I don't remember off the top of my head which one) that VV only reads the VV rendered or DVX100 24P headers 'correctly.'

I'm not quite sure what you mean, but I have rendered out a 24fps file from AE using the mainconcept DV codec, and it read as 24p in vegas. ( that's the other issue, when removing 3-2, I have to go uncompressed, or to MC's or MS's codec, since VV won't let go it's codec) You can go out uncompressed to 24 as well. I haven't tried to suck in HD directly yet, but that was kind of my question. Will Vegas remove the pulldown automatically. Then, if so, maybe a proxy footage situation could happen.

I looked up the post - it was SonicEPM who said it - here is exaclty what was said:

"24p DV files from the Panasonic camera (or those rendered from Vegas using the 24p DV templates) have specific header info that are required for print to tape in SF Vidcap. AfterFX does not currently support reading or writing these "special" 24p DV files, so that's the reason Vidcap can't print them.

Side note: Many companies at NAB claimed that they would be supporting 24p DV in the future (Apple in fact has been promising this for close to a year), but as of this writing I don't think anyone else writes a 24p DV avi that we can read. DVFilmaker does 24p Quicktime, so that won't work without conversion. Blade...haven't tried it. Might work, might not."

Now this was specific to the VidCap mod *BUT* I have noticed when I bring in AE rendered 24P files (Rendered with the MC codec) they will not automaticly read as 24P - they read as 24 Interlaced. So you have to manually set each file as "None (Progressive)" for the field setting. So you mention HD I was curious to see if VV read, or did not read, the header for a 24P HD file created with AE. But what I gather is you are using the MC DV codec and not rendering out in HD .

No. 3-2 removal only works with native DVX100 footage, preferrably captured with our capture tool.

HD material shouldn't have pulldown in it to begin with. ATSC HD supports 24p framerates (23.976 and 24.000 fps) and has no need for pulldown; it's a waste of bandwidth.
