3 hour video = 10 GB. WHY?

Why does a DVD quality video, rendered in MPEG-2 format and transfered to DVD architect, show up as a 10 GB file with no transitions - only crossfades? I am trying to copy it to a dual layer disc. Is there some type of setting to change to make the video smaller without losing quality? Or should I render it as something other than a MPEG-2?

1) Don't render to a different format --- MPEG-2 is the format used on video DVDs. If you don't supply MPEG-2 to DVDA, it will convert what you gave it to MPEG-2, anyway.

2) What you need to do is to re-render your video at a lower bitrate. For help with selecting an appropriate bitrate, you can use an online tool (see the link, below) as a starting point.

Are you using AC3 for the audio? This will also help save space but
can't say that is all. One hour on a 4.7 DVD is not that far off.
