Not at all. 30p captures 3 images per second. 60i captures 60 images per second, though each one is at half-resolution.

If you're going for smoother motion then 60i is a much better choice.

Thank you. I was under a misconception about 60i in how it worked technically. Will try it soon to see how it goes.

I sure Kelly meant "30p captures 30 images per second".

You mentioned 720-60p, and that would probably be your best bet, as it will give you 60 images per second with 720 pixel rows of detail each. Assuming you are talking about 1080-60i, each 60i "half image" will have 540 pixel rows of detail.

For slow motion, shoot 60p, then double its length in a 30p project.

Looking at your post again, you may be remembering a discussion about bob deinterlacing. Takes 60i (29.97i) source and makes it 60p by interpolating fields. Welcome to try, but not natively in Vegas afaik.
