3CCD vs 1CCD camera for capturing...

[r]Evolution wrote on 4/28/2003, 8:48 PM
I have a 3CCD Prosumer camera and a 1CCD Consumer camera. I know that the CCD's matter for the actual recording process, but does it matter which I use during playback for firewire capture?

I would much rather use the cheaper camera for playback during capture as to not wear and tear my good camera.

Any thoughts?

Thanks in advance,
Lamont

Go ahead and use the cheaper cam for capture, no difference!

And what about printing back to tape?
Any difference there?

Same thing, I believe..You're just transferring a file from computer to camera.

So, in essence...The CCD's only matter for initial recording?
Does not matter for playback from Camera into VEGAS for capturing?
Does not matter for playback from VEGAS to Camera?

It seems that when you are burning back to tape, the CCD's once again would be recording, but their was a response in this thread that states otherwise. So much help...So much confusion. >I've learned more from this site than I ever did in class.

CCD's only matter WHEN RECORDING THROUGH THE LENS.

To NLE - not used.
From NLE - not used.

The CCD (charge coupled device) is a "receptor". It takes the light rays, coming in through the lens, and digitizes the image, breaking down the image into tiny dots of color (pixels). The tape deck records the code for these pixels into DV files.
Unlike analog tape recording, the image itself is not recorded, but rather just a digital file of the image.
That's why the transfer from your camera to the computer (and back) is "lossless". When you copy an analog tape to another, there is always a qualitative "hit". You pick up noise and lose detail. In digital communication there is no loss.
Not any more than you would expect if you copy an Excel spreadsheet.
So once you've encoded the visual information onto tape, the CCD is totally out of the loop.

This made it very clear, thanks to all.
