3d compositing

SueG wrote on 7/28/2009, 4:43 PM
I would like to take a picture and turn/rotate it to the left (like a book cover opening up)
I don't want a page peel - I want the page to stay intact like a cardboard book cover.
I have tried to use the 3d compositing tool and can rotate the page, but only from a center axis - like a spinning move. I would like to move the axis to the left edge and rotate the picture from there.
Is this possible using Vegas?
Thanks for any help you can give - these forums are a great resource!

See if the 3d card and envelope thread helps you.

TheHappyFriar has the link to this veg file and several more (Vegas Pro 9 only).

Yes, I looked at the 3d card and that is similar to what I would like to do. Couldn't find any instructions that told how to though.

In the very first post, Rory (XFX) says right click and add as take to replace pics.
If you still can't get it, send him an email (click on his name) asking for help.

Thanks for pointing me to the samples that were made. They are similar to what I want to do, but not exactly. What I am looking for are some instructions as to how to use the 3d compositing controls - or whichever controls - to manipulate and create the effects that would match the project I need it for.

Not to beat a dead horse, but if you download his file (veg file) for that particular effect, you will be able to see in Vegas how he made it. Then all you have to do is reverse engineer what he did... at least that is how I learn best- getting in there and getting my hands dirty. It does help if someone can give you something to go by though.

And what you are looking for is the parent/child relationship. You want to rotate a plane, not just the image.

Here is the link to the veg file: Click Here

I have two tutorials on my web site that should give you the information you need. The first is 3D Track Motion: Changing the Pivot Point. This will show you how to make the frame open like a book from it's side. The second one, 3D Parent Motion: Moving Planes may come in handy if you have to move multiple tracks in unison (like a book).

Thanks for all your help - both answers have helped!

I think JR hit the nail on the head by mentioning his "pivot point" tutorial. This (the very key to getting a 3D "book" to work right is also one of the easiest things to miss by just looking at someone else's project.
