You could try Xara 3D although it does not support alpha channels so you need to chroma key out the background.

The other option would be Ulead 3D Studio which would allow you to do more.

Serif's Impact Plus is also worth looking at, but only if you have a FAST machine. By FAST, I mean at least 2GHz. It is the pits on a 1 GHz unit. TOO SLOW. But interesting.

Adobe after effects has a plugin by Zaxwerks. That's the real deal. Unfortunatly it's very pricy. It comes with the production bundle for $1500.

I just bought Ulead Cool 3d 3.0 on eBay for about $14 total including shipping. Simple to use for creating 3d text, and can't beat the price. Go to Ulead.com to get the 3.5 version for about $25.

Ulead 3D Studio works great for me. It's simple for my simple mind and does a decent job for my needs.

Caligari's TrueSpace is another option.

There sure are tons of 3D programs out there. Lots of options! :)
