Hi there, I would like to buy Canopus ADVC 1394, but I don't the difference between 4-pin IEEE and 6-pin IEEE (ARE they the same??) (I still dont have a DV camera). Thanks
My laptop has a 4 pin firewire and my dv has a 4 pin. So i need to make sure I use my adapter from 6 pin to 4 pin to make my camera and laptop communicate. A firewire card is usually 6 pin and you would connect that via firewire on the other end to the 4 pin camera. A firewire cable on one end is 6 pin and the other is 4 pin (smaller). Some firewire cables come with the adapter to make them (edit)6 pin to 4pin.
I have the ADVC-1394 with the front bay option. The card comes with a 4-pin to 4-pin 1394 cable but you will need a 6-pin to 4-pin 1394 cable to run from the back of the card to the camera. The front bay if installed disables the back connection of the card. The 4-pin to 4-pin 1394 cable is for the front bay. I have had the ADVC-1394 for several years and love it.
