40 vs. 60 minute - picture quality

If I record on miniDV tape, should there be any discernable loss in quality if I set imy carmer to record 60 minutes of tape instead of 40? A friend said he taped both ways and notices no difference.

I also don't notice a difference in picture quality while I'm editing it but when i render in wmv as usual and stream it on the web, that's where I see a loss in sharpness. Would that be because of changing my settings or something else entirely?

I assume you mean DV Cam when referring to 40 min.

The quality is the same - Standard DV and DV Cam use the same digital information, it is just recorded more "robustly" on tape with DV Cam, so theoretically there should be less tape dropouts, though these are extremely rare with Standard DV.

So, once you've got it on Hard Drive without dropouts, it's the same thing.

Going to wmv, any differences may be simply different settings in rendering.
