4K rendering

Roger Bansemer wrote on 11/11/2024, 6:44 AM

I have three questions:
1. If I have my properties set to 1920x1080 and want to render in 4K, do I need to change the properties of the project or can I leave it at 1920x1080?
2. In the "render as" section why do the choices in Magix AVC/AAC.mp4 all say "Internet"
2. And... I don't even see in the Properties tab where there is a choice to render in 4K at 30fps. I only see 24fps.
Thanks

1. I think to have everything at a 4K resolution (including generated text, etc.) you'd want to work in a 4K project.
2. Does it matter? It's probably an artifact from an earlier era when DVDs, memory stick, etc. were other target options.
3. You can change the framerate in project properties and also customize a render template for 24fps (or 23.976) and then save it for future use.

1. Definitely when rendering with Voukoder for Vegas, but would only make sense when your footage is also 4k.

2. and 3. no need to choose between a bunch of render templates when rendering with Voukoder, With Voukoder you just use ONE rendertemplate (actual with a fixed quality setting for AVC/HEVC) and that rendertemplate adepts your project resolution and framerate settings automatically. Bitrates and filesizes are depending on the choosen quailty setting. When using GPU support in Voukoder, rendering will also be much faster as with Magix AVC/HEVC

I had Voukoder with my last version of Vegas but it doesn't appear in Vegas 22. Guess I'll have to download it and install it again.... And just so I'm clear, you're saying that my 4k footage in Vegas where my project properties is set to 1920x1080 needs to be set to 4K if I want to render out to 4K.
Thanks

@Roger Bansemer It shouldn't make no difference, but like @RogerS mentioned, generated media in 1080 project like text will have less resolution when rendering to 4k. When rendering with voukoder, project resolution should be set to the desired render resolution. Also it's not a big thing to set the project resolution to the desired render resolution.

Forgive me for being vague on this. Which one of these files do I need to download and install to get Voukoder to work in V22? I started to download one of them and I got a warning not to DL.

Download the Voukoder classic (upper right) and the connector for VP 22 (bottom right).

Thanks for the help. I would be very lost without help from everyone in the forum.

One more question if I may... I'm shooting in 4k. I thought that setting the properties to 1920x1080 would lessen the burden on the CPU and video card for less lag in previewing. Does it make a difference?
Thanks again.

@Roger Bansemer I normally prefer to set my project settings to the desired output resolution, which is mostly 1080p, also when my footage is 2160p (because I don't see a difference on my 4k TV at normal viewing distance). In your case, I just would leave project settings at 2160p and play with the resolution settings of the preview window to minimize lag in previewing. When not using an external monitor for the preview, it makes no sense to set preview resolution to full when viewing on the small preview window in the UI. Setting preview resolution to half or even quarter is mostly sufficient. Also you could use the prerender feature to prerender complex regions of your project to get a lag free preview. Final option is to use proxies for your 4k footage.
