Has anybody that has Vegas MS Platinum 7 been successful at getting sound out of the rear/center/sub speakers?

I have a sony reciever with 6 channel input and it is connected correctly with my PC. The PC audio card setup speaker test work fine and window media player 9 will play six channel wav files perfect. However when I'm in Platinum 7 set the project to 5.1 sound and put audio events in the rear, center, front and sub channels the rear sound channels will only come from the front left or right speakers. the center channel only heard through the left speaker and the sub channel does not play any sound.

I hope someone out there has some information this topic. Thanks

To follow up:

With the help from the Vegas Audio Form and searching the web I have the solution to the problem.

My 6 channel audio is on the mother board (AC97 chipset). Vegas will not work with on board audio because the driver does not allow the selections of the output channels, but there is a work around.

You can use a third party ASIO driver. I downloaded a program called ASIO4ALL.

After you install the ASIO driver, go to the properties of your project under the tab audio device select the audio device type of ASIO4ALL, select the correct channels for the speakers (by trial and error) everything will work from there.

I haven't thought about this much on my PC but I have the onboard AC97 chipset and have always thought it to only be capable of regular 2 speaker stereo. Are you saying that it's capable of 6-channel 5.1?

I do see in the Realtek Multi-channel Audio Configuration utility, in the Speaker Configuration tab, the option for "6 / 5.1 speaker mode". So maybe I do have it.

I don't have surround-sound speakers and I never thought of buying them because I didn't think my PC had the capability unless I purchased a separate sound card. Maybe I'm missing something, let me know.

I'm not sure if AC97 chipset are universaly 6/5.1 or not, but I knew that my motherboard had 6 channel speaker capability when I built my computer.

I would think that it does have the capability though.

Do a test. Hook up another set of amplified speakers as the speaker configuration tab say too and try it out.
