5.1 channels blurring?

I made a test clip (V5) and set the keyframes to max right front, left front, left rear and right rear and center. When I preview it in DVD-A2
it seems all of the channels are blended together. All of the preferences are set to 5.1. It plays exactly the way I set it in V5. What am I missing here?

DVDA lets you preview 5.1 AC-3 for reference purposes, but only downmixed to stereo.

The ONLY way to truly evaluate the AC-3 files is to burn to DVD, listen on a HW DVD player (and even then its tricky- just about every player decodes 5.1 a bit differently).
