Just thought I would bring this thread back to life - anyone know of any any DX/VST 5.1 audio plug-ins? I love the WAVE stuff but their 360 plugs do not work in Vegas, which brings up a question - VST verses VST(i). What is the tiny variation in this that dissallows certian products from reading the plug-ins.
VST plugin is an audio FX plugin. Vegas 6 added support for these.
VSTi : the 'i' stands for instrument, like a virtual synth or bass, sampler etc. ACID can use these
5.1 has nothing to do with either version specifically. You do get 5.1 VST plugins, and I think Sonar probably has 5.1 DirectX plugins.
Actually Sonar does a clever thing were it will manage plugins in such a way that any plugin can be used for 5.1 (with multiple instances of the plugin.)
Vegas plugins that support surround: wave-hammer, dither and track EQ.
Vegas just isn't the best multichannel host around at the moment.

That makes sense but now I am not sure I get why the Waves 360 Surround plugs are "i". They are, in part, 5.1 tools including an updated 5.1 version of the L2 which works just fine in its DX version, but isn't surround. Now I do get that they say these plugs are for use with Cubase and/or Nuendo 3 but i just thought that VSYwas VST - much like a photoshop filter will work in "any photoshop compatable host" or After Effects plugs will work in "AE compatable hosts".

That is somewhat what I think the thrust of this thread was - where are there working 5.1 plugs that will work in Vegas. As I mentioned the Waves 360 plugs are 5.1 however they are VST(i). I also have tried the StarPlugs VST plugs but some work, some don't - I can't figure them out if they don't load, and their documentation lacks a lot.
