Greets,

What happens if I encode audio in 5.1 ac3 and my customer plays it on a AV system that does not have 5.1 decoding? Like a portable DVD player or TV DVD combo.

In other words should I make Dolby Digital stereo/5.1 an option vs. pcm audio for the customer to decide?

The majority of DVD players or receivers will properly downmix this for you.

What happens to the center channel? I've read about problems where the stereo downmixing is basically FL and FR. Meaning if we put dialog in the center, it will disappear in the stereo. True or false?

I'm pretty sure the center channel gets evenly split between left and right.
