50GB Blu-ray Disc Capacity?

I read a good thread a few days ago that included a calculation to work out how many hours and minutes of uncompressed mpeg2 footage you can get onto a 50GB Blu-ray disc.

Now I can't find it - DAMN!

I've got a m2t project on the Vegas timeline, 4 hours 25 minutes in length.

Will this fit onto a 50GB Blu-ray disc without any compression?

If I need to compress it, how much will I need to drop the bitrate to?

TIA
Neil

4:25 of HDV on a 50gig disc will probably not quite fit. To fit it on a disc with a 5% reserve to allow for menus and such will require a bitrate of around 23.923 mbps. HDV is 25 mbps and assuming no reserve, it should just barely fit.

Thanks for that John.

Do you have a speadsheet etc that was used to work out the bitrate so accurately?

Thanks again

There is an Excel spreadsheet bitrate calculator available at VASST.COM. It's called "EncodingCalculator2" and can be found here:
