I had 29.97 1080i footage, converted to 720 60p.

Trying to remember here:
-Put 1080i on timeline
-Project properties 720 60p (so set your project to your desired final output).
-I think I right clicked the timeline event and selected "smart resample" on the switches options

Test each frame by going one-by-one on the timeline. I verified that each frame was a unique picture. I believe it essentially converted each field into a frame.

Since no DVD format would be compatible with it, I assume you will be outputting for Web. It worked, but not sure of the value I obtained?

We output 720 60p all the time for digital theatre ads. I haven't yet upconverted SD material but fldave's method should work just fine.

I remember reading somewhere they said you can turn 29.97 interlaced into 59.94 fps progressive. I don't know why or where you want to do this at.... maybe for the web?

Has anyone does this before? I will take fldave advice though. I will have to try those steps...

Sorry, I'm no help with this in Vegas, but Topaz Enhance does a superb job of creating 59.94 progressive from interaced.

There is a tutorial and demo on the site about exactly how to do this.
