Have tried deleting old "Sony install' folder and re-install, but setup still hangs with this message. Event Viewer shows something to do with Media Manager.
"Computer: HAL
Description:
The description for Event ID ( 19011 ) in Source ( MSSQL$SONY_MEDIAMGR ) cannot be found. The local computer may not have the necessary registry information or message DLL files to display messages from a remote computer. You may be able to use the /AUXSOURCE= flag to retrieve this description; see Help and Support for details. The following information is part of the event: (SpnRegister) : Error 1355."
The msde installer should have created a verbose log here:
c:\program files\sony\shared plug-ins\media manager\msdesetup.log
If you get in touch with technical support (you have a free 60 day gold support plan with Vegas 6) and supply them with that log file and your basic machine settings (os, service packs, etc.), we can try to troubleshoot the issue further.
The forums don't work for that level of troubleshooting as the msdesetup.log file can be a couple of megabytes (i.e. it doesn't post well).
Fixt. I'm sure I tried this earlier, but started fresh. Deleted the Sony Setp/Vegas folder, and ran the vegas60c.exe ditrib file. It failed with the same "Unknown Error".
So the I ran the setup.exe from the install folder, and it did the biz OK. So something dodgy in the 'v60c master extractor runner thingy', on my PCs at least.
There was no msdesetup.log file in that location...
